Advice on a new monitor please

Hey Guys,

Ive recently upgraded some parts in my PC and was now looking to buy a new monitor, i have always played PC games @ 1080p but im hoping to upgrade to 1440P.
So my questions are do you think my PC will be able to handle 1440P?? (Still have old GPU)
and what monitor would you recommend for around £500 - £600.

I have been looking at a Samsung Odyssey G7 but not sure how good it is compared to other monitors for this price range?
I will be using this monitor for gaming 90% of the time, i play all types of games from RPG's to MMO's to FPS's and also Strategy games.

With some setting tweaking 2560x1440 should run well in majority of games.
Unless you play only the heaviest games.
Anyway higher resolution compensates some lowering of settings.
And for strategy games extra screen real estate is huge improvement.


That Samsung isn't just curved, it's off the charts bent.
That's from 32" model, but curve is in same scale for 27" model.
So unless you know you can tolerate such extreme curvature wouldn't recommend those.


My pick on 27" 2560x1440 would be MSI MAG274QRF-QD
MSI 27" MAG274QRF-QD 2560x1440 IPS Quantum Dot 165Hz 1ms FreeSync/G-Sync Widescreen LED Backlit Gami (SKU: MO-015-MS) = £498.95

Used AU Optronics panel has very wide gamut covering also AdobeRGB with cyan/green coverage beyond overhyped DCI-P3.
That gives vibrant colours especially in games depicting nature.
And contrast is very good for IP and response times are modern.

Hiya, any update on Monitor choice for a budget up to £300, never had curved but is birthday present for kid.

Which one is best the Benq (down from £500 really)? Or the Gigaybyte. Budget is £250 ish running a Ryzen 3 with a 2070S. Appreciate the curve is more pronounced on the Benq and both are VA. Used for gaming.

If you prefer darkened room, then VA shines with its way highest contrast of LCDs giving best looking image for any darker content.
But in more normal room illumination contrast advantage over IPS doesn't matter much.
While VA brings its horizontal gamma shift aka "black crush" and as rule very slow dark shade transitions aka "black smear".

VA is terrible for gaming in my experience - has very bad ghosting on blacks and dark colors.

As a very quick summary (obviously individual panels of each type will vary):

* TN: fastest, but colours and contrast not great
* IPS: not quite as fast as TN, most vibrant and accurate colours, blacks can be more "grey" and potential IPS glow
* VA: slowest, deeper blacks and better contrast, but smearing in dark scenes, also poor viewing angles

TN is best for professional esports where speed > picture quality

IPS is a good all round if you play relatively fast paced well lit games, but not so good in slower atmospheric/dark single player games where you might notice the poorer blacks and glow

VA is good for those slower paced SP games where you can enjoy the increased contrast and the smearing doesn't make such a difference

Thanks for help, but my budget wasnt stretching that far...
