Well ive been goin gym 3 times a week for 6 months now and jees i can see the difference, my shoulders are square and ive got some nice solid pecks :p

My question is what length of time could i stop going to the gym for without losing my physique?

Because ive gota bit of over time at work to do and then im going on holiday for 12 days. i dont wanna come back and have to drop the weights down a notch or two

cheers

While your on holiday what about doing some early morning running down the beach followed by some sit ups/push ups etc etc

Legs a the bottom of the torso, Arms at the top side's and the head goes on top(of the torso, not the arms)

Well you will have to, strength drops very quickly though it will come back quickly. Assuming you're not starving yourself you won't lose any muscle in that amount of time.

This isn't going to be your first training break in six months is it?

no its not but id say the max break ive had is 2 weeks, but i wasnt as muscley then. ive started seeing big gains in what i can lift just recently

Another vote for a total rest whilst maintaining a good diet, you may find you keep growing. Building of the muscle occurs during rest.
Anyway probably 6 weeks is the limit as to significant drop in performance.

Not sure if there is any truth to this, but I've heard you start losing strength within a week if you stop training.

But if you keep your diet sensible, I imagine you could get away with doing some ligher exercises than you are used to in the gym.. i.e Crunches, push ups, dips (which for the chest, are as good as anything else tbh) and squats with something heavy in your arms.

Yep I've seen it said physiologically anything from 7-21 days before you start to actually degrade (but I guess that's probably as much to do with genetics and what you're doing as much as anything).

On the other hand (as I think Chong Warrior was alluding too) a rest every now and then can actually help, both psychologically and physiologically.

You HAVE to rest when training. It's part of the process. If you drop a small percentage of strengh it will soon be picked back up within the first week of training.

You won't suffer any great loss. Just keep you protein up, and eat sensibly.
