Hey guys,

Just passed and wanting to get on the road. Now being the poor lil student that i am ive seem a SEAT Leon 1.9TDi 90bhp car, year 2001, 107,000 miles for 3000quid, is this a good deal and whats your opinions??

all input appreciated.

Thank You

MM

get a smaller engined cheaper car, your insurance will be stupidly high on a car with that size engine and it costing 3 grand

i did a quote and insurance is costing 1700 first person fully comp and thats a steal for where i live.

insurance isnt always higher because of engine size but if it were me I wouldnt spend 3k on a first car simply because of the increased risk of having bumps/scrapes or whatever, without knowing anything about the pricing of the ibiza I would say thats a little bit expensive for the age and mileage, could be wrong though

Its a diesel you twonk 1.9TDI is not a massive engine.

Ignore almost all of this posters advice apart from the expense part.

If your a poor student do you need a 3 grand car? Could get a decent car for 1000-1500 quid and then pay your insurance with the rest, expect that would be in the same kind of region making your 3k budget.

thats insanely high, dont think id ever even consider paying that much for insurance on a 3 grand car.

1700 is low for fully comp on pretty much any car at that age I would pay like 2.3k on a 1.4 (I pay 1.2k on a 2 litre atm but its tpft)

eh, im 21 insured on a 2001 punto for 670 fully comp with 3 pts on my licence. how the hell is that cheap ? :o but anyway id look for something with at least 30 - 40k less miles on it as well

im 20, got my license yesterday and that quote is miles cheaper than anywhere else, most english companies dont like Belfast so my choices are limited

well its a punto so small engine and its a low risk car as well as you being 21 you probably livi in a lower risk postcode than the OP

go for the nice seat derv mobile good choice :) or maybe get sommat a bit less pricey as statistically your going to be very likely of having a bump in your first year,

buy a nice cheap runabout mess around for a year then get something nice :)

oh and parent as named driver on the policy pref mum and possibly dad if it knocks some more off,

oh and the joy of being 25+ with full no claims
Audi A4 Tdi 130 with remap declared me and Mrs Sormicoft 197 PA Fully comp ***

2x octavia taxis for private hire work with public liability 298 p/m :)

as for the seat derv its basically a vag :) no real problems although they have a penchant for eating starters, good reliable workhorse and very inexpensive to maintan just remember to service regularly(they dont like dirty filters)

i need to be first named driver so i can start my ncb. im totally aware that im statistically gonna crash. but the way i see it, this car will have its work cut out and anything lower may not suit. ive scoured used car dealers, auto trader, people i no who live near me and this car seems decent.
