I am looking at getting a netbook. Either the NC10 or the N110

Thing is i dont like the way xp looks! AND from reading reviews the Sammys struggle with Windows 7

So would VISTA be an option for the sammy netbook. I like vista and the looks of it.

Would vista be worse than windows 7. IE for general running and speed?

Thanks :)

you could always get a new skin for xp if it's looks that bother you.

personally I like Vista on my desktop but never for my netbook, i also passed on win 7 so am using xp on netbook. would have rather had win7 on it, but just felt it was a bit too much for a simple netbook

Windows 7 on my NC10 is fine. Tried it just for fun and haven't gone back. Only 1GB at the moment but will be going to 2GB soon.

That's good to know. I'm gonna go for the nc10 with xp then decide later on. What I don't understand is what is the difference between nc10 and n110 look the same

How do the skins work. At they full of bugs or good?

that is a case by case scenario really since a lot of skins are made by the community, some have more features while others can have more more bugs. there are thousands to choose from, so really depends which you get. as a word of advice u can always check out the most popular ones and see the feedback on those, since these will have been tested by more people for you ;)

Why do people insist on using Windows with netbooks, when they are clearly much better suited to Linux based OSes?

Because they work perfectly well and maintain compatibility with everything you have ever used, or are likely to ever use in the future.

Got Windows 7 on my NC10 works fine, even better now Samsung have released Windows 7 drivers. Had it on for ages, I'd say it works very well with 7 even with 1gb and aero works.

But soon gonna upgrade it to 2gb so I can change the internal graphics to 128gb as it sometimes struggles with streaming HD.

what do you plan on doing with a netbook?

if you plan on using it for what it is intended to ie surfing the web, basic MS office tasks, mobility, etc... then seriously forget win7, upgrading 2gb of ram, etc.. will eat your battery and you will still be short in terms of a performing computer anyway :p.

I cannot understand the need for some to upgrade 2gb of ram and change gfx cards etc.. on a netbook . if you want to view HD movies, stream, media center or play games there are other machines much better suited for those purposes than any upgraded netbook.

Lets be frank here, they don't work perfectly well. There's still a lot of compatibility issues going from XP to Vista/7.

The point is XP is still a lot better for netbooks than 7. XP is 7 or 8 years old at this point. Ubuntu or Mint is less bloated still and are actually modern OSes.

The main reason for the netbook are

  • Internet
  • Word
  • Odd,old games
  • Watching films from the HD

then xp should be enough, if you play old games XP is also better since Win 7 may have some issues with some old games. I know Vista does even in compatibility/administrator mode.

Ubuntu, standard or netbook remix runs a lot slower than Windows 7 did on my netbook.

Start up time and general use, 7 is far ahead of Ubuntu and Windows XP.

N110 here.
