Advice on smart lights/bulbs

Hi,

Decided to get a Google Home Speaker for the bedroom, £78.00 BF deal. Picking it up tomorrow, worth a punt for the money, will probably just get used as an alarm clock, bit of radio.

It's the first smart speaker I've bought and fancy a play with some lights, maybe just one or two to start with and see what happens.

Can I literally just buy a couple of smart bulbs and plug them to any old lamp/light or do I need anything else? Have iPads and such like.....

Any bulbs recommendations or anything?

I got a Xiaomi Yeelight from china around £7 for the multi colour version.
You can also check the Philips Hue LEDs.

Cheers, picked up a LIFX B22 multi-coloured bulb, works really well, will no doubt do the others in time!

Picked up one of those yesterday really impressed with how well it works no bridge needed either.

Yeah me too. It was absolutely flawless to set up and after having it for a few days now it's really spot on. Wasn't cheap but I'm a big believer in you get what you get what you pay for......

While it uses a bridge I have the Ikea Tradfri and like it, all linked into Alexa as well
