Advice on what constitutes a valid yellow line and "blip"

First off I'm not fighting a parking ticket But I'd be grateful if someone could point me in the direction of a site that can explain what legally constitutes a yellow line or "blip" on the side of the road. e.g. it's not valid if broken, etc

The condition of the yellow line is not critical if there is a sign nearby..

However, some have gotten away with it where the yellow line has been replaced by fresh tarmac...

I believe it must be a continuous yellow line, at each end it must have a stop line ie |------------------------------------------|

Otherwise it makes any tickets invalid.

I believe i saw some old guy on TV about 8 months ago fighting a parking ticket and i heard the above on whatever program it was on!!

i fought one and won, then parked dodgily the next week and got caught heh - justice on me probably, but i fought it on the basis that other cars were parked on the ends of the yellow and the bit i parked on was the middle of the yellow lines, but had been eroded. Took photographs and wrote a crappy letter and got away with it. 2nd time i took it on the chin as karma

similar thing, but what is the rule about parking within lines, is it something like the backwhhel must be within the parking space.

Or the whole car ?
