Hi there,

Due to the drive space on an SSD I'm looking at trimming away at all the non-essential windows programs and moving them over to my raptors...

My question is what should i be taking off the SSD, the obvious ones are whats contained in the C:\Users directory but moving the C:\Users\name\AppData folder, would that hinder performance anywhere?

Any info on what i should move to SATA is appreaciated, i just want to maximise the drive space on the SSD without crippling performance.

Thanks:)

I would leave appdata and any data folders created for games, and obviously anything like c:\users\username\desktop if you use your desktop as a work space. They key is working out which folders are going to impact your performance, plain documents, media etc won't but application settings and games most likely will.

I've stopped moving them with Windows 7, I just have a set of folders on my server and create a library with the default set to the server path. This seems to be working quite well, as it doesn't get in the way of any apps that create their own data folders in users.

Cheers for the reply!

Ill move the Documents and Saved games folders back on to the SSD since they will be access by games.

Just have to decide what will go on the SSD and not :)

Spacemonger is a nice free app to see where your space is being used.
Personally I find moving game directories off the drive and onto my NAS the easiest way to keep space available for whater i'm currently playing. Its quicker than reinstalling to just move it back if i want to play it later (usually under 2 mins, even on large games)

Cheers Zarf,

I have just done a few tests and it looks like there is no real difference in load times between my SSD and SATA drive anyway. Running perfectly according to benchmarks though.

Not really overly impressed so far :)
