Hey all,

I currently have a MSI 580GTX 1.5GB and I want to go SLI for maximum performance at the native resolution of my 30" monitor with some AA.

My predicament is a second 580 won't help with the VRAM shortage (or so I keep reading). It's going to be a ballache to sell my 580 just to re-buy a 3GB variant.

I don't mind buying the 3GB card, but would prefer to hear off people who play at 2560x with 580 SLI.

Thanks!

I can tell you that 2560x1600 is a money-sink. Most vram demanding games would require the GPU power of at least three (3) GTX580 3GBs to sustain 60 fps. If you are not willing to invest crazy money into it, then you'll eventually have to turn down some AA level in those games.

However I still suggest you get the 3GB versions (or even the AMD 6900 series with 2GB vram per GPU), as 1.5GB is starting to show some limitations even at 1920x1200 (e.g. unable to max out Shogun 2 etc).

If you can wait for the 28nm flagships then wait.
