-40 isnt a wild reading its a specific reading and it means the external temp sensor isn't sending any signal to the car. Usually because its badly damaged or plain missing.

I lost mine when I collided with some junk in the outside lane of the A303 :(

It messes up the climate control as well so you'd need to be a proper ***** to just leave it and not bother to get it fixed.

Oh, I'm sorry! I did not realise that (but had an idea you would!!!) - Dads reads anything from - 40 to + 50 (!) and has done for years.

Numerous trips to BMW has never sorted the issue whilst it was his company car and I guess, now he's a 70+ year old ***** for not wanting to pay out to get it fixed. :D

Thankfully for him, the climate works.

I think the facelift model has a slightly different climate system. Without the external temp sensor you cannot use the Max function, or the Rest function, and the airflow is reduced because it cannot adjust airflow for ambient temperature.

he probably bought it and is now sitting with a pile of scrap on his drive wondweing how much he will get if he sells the parts off!

oh and last night some wassak ripped the wing mirror off my focus. street side too so it's not like it was an accident.

well only really looked around the outside, "Gaz" was out for half an hour.

Looked okay, but could not check any of the usual bad bits. If i needed a car quick would probably nip back for a second look but looking on AT there are nicer cars for a few hundred quid more.

I thought we had established that it wasn't the best example, really ...don't buy anything other than a 1st class example, I did and look what happened.

A friend wants picking up from the garage next door to it, if - and only if -I have to pick him up, I'll go a bit early and have a look.

Just curious, I was using my old mans e39 yesterday, I wonder how it compares condition wise.... No intention of buying whatsoever. :)

Blatant time waster. :o
