Hi,

I'm looking for a RGB controller that will work with my new CPU block its this: https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-velocity-d-rgb-nickel-plexi

I was wondering if something would work to light it up as currently my Motherboard has no RGB on it and not planning a upgrade yet but would like to get some fancy lights. I might as well light it up if I can right.

would this work for it https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/coolers/rgb-accessories/rgb-led-controller/

Or would I be looking for something else?

Thanks

Your block has 5V addressable (digital) RGB. And that controller has 12V plain RGB output. So sadly they're not compatible. 12V RGB can only do one colour at a time though, whereas addressable LEDs can have patterns, motion, etc on them.

So your block has more features, but you will need an alternative method of control. I'm not too familiar with USB offerings but you can search for ARGB, DRGB, or addressable/digital RGB.

That looks perfect as it'll work now, but can be connected to any other addressable RGB gear you buy down the line :)

The only other thing you might need would be an appropriate cable to connect the different shaped plugs of the block and the controller. They might already match, try looking closely at the photos.

I have been looking at the pictures and I'm not sure if the 4 pin, with 3 cables on the water block has anywhere it can connect to on that controller, only 4 pin connection I can see is for the motherboard would this mean I cannot use or maybe have to modify a connection?

The specs on the right column suggest it's all based on 3-pin DRGB even if the plug is 4-pin. You'd need to get an adapter or at worst, modify one of the plugs from what I can tell.

No worries :) Do not be afraid to rewire plugs or make adapters yourself! Ultimately it's all just three wires however it's arranged: ground, 5V supply, and the signal wire.

The phanteks drgb controller will only give you the preset lighting modes not full software control like motherboard rgb headers, but it can be connected to a motherboard to work as a splitter.
