Hi guys and girls!
I'm looking getting a new telly, my budget is ideally no more than £300 which I appreciate limits my options.

Currently I cant decide between a named brand 1080p like the LG 43LF590V for £280. Or a cheap brand 4k, like the Argos Hitachi 43" UHD 4k smart TV (43HGT69U) for £300.

Not sure what would be best! I'd appreciate any advice or TV recommendations!

Thanks! :)

Hisense H43M3000 43" Smart 4K Ultra HD TV

is around £300. it's a new and upcoming name from Asia. not the absolute best in terms of quality but absolute best in terms of value for money.

you're getting the quality of a brand name without the price tag.

Thanks so much Sonny!
That looks really interesting! Never heard of the brand, thanks a lot for sharing it!

It says its only a 60hz refresh rate. My current set has not motion frame rate increase stuff (or whatever manufacturers call it) and I was wanting a set with one on to reduce blur in both tv/movies and gaming. Surprising it doesn't have any, do you think its really that important?

Thanks again mate! Really helpful chatting to someone in the know! :D

Most video will play at 24p, or 24 FPS. For games 60 FPS will be fine (and is what most PC monitors do as well). In fact I think consoles would struggle to play lots of games over 60 FPS anyway.

I wouldn't be too worried, a lot of the tv's that say they do 100hz or 200hz are just interpolating, adding frames between existing ones - this can cause things like the soap opera effect (really unrealistic feel) and artifacts.

For games response time may be more important, which is measured in milliseconds.

I'm still pretty sceptical about Hisense, i need to see a set in action in person before i'm convinced. I'm on the market for a 55" 4k Sony

Sony don't make their own panels any more. They buy panels from Samsung and LG, etc then add their own electronics to them. Sony IMO are overpriced but if you do buy their top of the range (very expensive panels) you usually get really good tv, their cheaper tv's aren't so great.

As for Hisense, I'm betting that most people on the street wouldn't know the difference between a hisense and a sony tv. What they would notice though is their wallet being a lot lighter with the sony.

I would go for samung then lg and panasonic before sony these days, they aren't the brand they once were. They had 1 good year a few years back people got hyped again but they have faded again.

Hisense aren't amazing by any means. They however offer decent enough quality at a stupidly low price point compared to major brand names. The reason being they are owned by and operated by the chinese government. They have been buying and colluding with other brand names for years, hitachi, fridgemaster, sharp, etc. I'm under no illusions that hisense aren't the best in terms of picture quality, however I do believe they at the moment in terms of value for money are the best brand out there. They also do make some tv's which are brilliant in terms of picture quality, they also aren't very cheap either. Hisense do have some tv's which cost over £1500 which come very highly reviewed on avforums

Having sold Sony tellies (they were CRT models back then) myself I wouldn’t buy one. Some had design flaws which led to Customer complaints, which has put me off & said tellies were not cheap either. OK other makes have flaws too, but its something personal so to speak, hard to explain really.

My folks have had Sony tellies in the past too, they were not without their niggles.

Thanks for the recommendation Sonny!

I actually decided 43 was too much, so I went with the Hisense H40M3300, which looks pretty good!
I am concerned about its low brightness of 250 though, but I'll see if that's an issue when I get it. I've heard brightness measurements can be very inaccurate and no one has mentioned it has low brightness in reviews so should be all good.

I suspect the software in built isn't half as good as better known brands but hey, its easy to buy a smart tv box!

Thanks again mate! :D

The problem with hisense is the processing is shockingly bad and I really mean that, hopefully when Panasonic quit the TV market they will sell their processing technology to hisense and then you will have a very very good tv at a very cheap price
