Do insurance companies require the installation certificate? i would think they do which leads me on to the next question

is it possible to fit yourself, and have an approved installer sign it off and fill out the certificate?

It doesn't seem that hard to install myself, but i dont know if an insurance company would accept a self install without the paperwork to go with it, which would probably cost as much to fit as to just test it and sign it off.

Thanks.

Last time I enquired they want you to have it fitted by an approved fitter, all the wires arnt colour coded

Is yours a new one or used? Some can be problematic aswel, the datatool ones, the alarms anyway

I think you cut the colour code tabs off after you've fitted them

Its new, reason i asked is because i was considering fitting it to my current bike, but then removing it and fitting it to another when i sell it, which would mean 2 sets of installation fee's and the additional fee to change the registration certificate to a different bike.

only other option would be leave it and just get it installed when i get the other bike.

I'd leave it to a proper installer either way as they're enough of a pain in the backside when they leave you stranded without having someone to phone and shout at :D

tbh why? When I checked insurance it seems added security immobiliser/locks etc... essentially don't reduce the premium significantly at all but alarms/immobilisers are well annoying as a user :)

its not really for the insurance price, i get it cheap enough anyway. I had a bike stolen a few weeks back which an immobiliser would have prevented, but if it can bring my quotes down, why not.

instead of having the bike written off, i'd have just needed a new ignition barrel

See how much it lowers it with a quote,if its not by much just fit it yourself and don't declare it? You'll save more fitting it yourself
