got a fish tank roughly 3 weeks ago, find out the light thing was broken as the swithc part had a loose connection and was sparking, not good near the water, so i take it back to switch it, which they said they can do but as they had none in stock iwould have to wait couple of weeks to go it, so i stupidly took there 2 year old one, just with my new bulbds in it.

Gt home and its horrible and i dont want it, its filthy and can't be cleaned, i thought that the white on top was the design but it is dirt that can't be removed. I want to take it back but as its been 3 weeks and i walked out the store with it do they have to replace it?

Im hoping they will have to or atleast will swap it for a new one as i bought this fish tank for a lot of money, £300, and obviously wasn't expecting to buy a 2 year old light thing.

I might give them a ring before going down there but want to know if they have to or not before talking on phone.

Thanks

And yet you accepted it and walked out of the store with it?

you saw the condition the used one was in before you decided to take it, and it's likely a new one will only go the same given time, you can always try but the'll probs just say that to you.

yeah thats what im thinking, sucks.

I didn't think about looking at its condition as i was distracted by the rest of the other things i had to take back at the time, and also he was telling me it had just been checked so i thought it can't be that old, but turns out from the stickers its alteast 2 years old.

Also the dirt on it looked like it just was the colour of the lid bits but when you put it with the rest of the lid parts its obviously not and is dirt.

Ok if i can't take it back roughly what sort of warrenty would i get for this? my main concern is that as its atleast 2 years old in a month or 2 its going to break and im screwed.

No you still have every right to go back there and give them grief. Just say you took their word that it was fine, and when you get home you see the state its in, you're not happy with it at all, want a new replacement. The trick is to go in there stony-faced and be VERY firm about what you want, and saying with an easy smile that you hope that this can be sorted out quickly with minimum fuss and that it would be a shame to have to take things further.
