Age restrictions on the sale of alcohol now TOO tight?

Just popped into the local co-op for a few cans on a sat night... and got refused. The crazy thing is I'm 29 and LOOK 29. I'll be 30 next month for christs sake.

I can understand them refusing people who look in their late teens/early twenties, but seriously... there is something very wrong when a 29 year old man gets refused a four-pack of 1664. :/

Maybe you look younger than you think? 'Age' is subjective to everyone. To some people I look 22+, to others I appear 18/19.

I know it's a pain in the backside, but just make sure you carry your ID with you next time. I always have mine on me.

Bloody co-op workers for you.
Oh, hang on.. :(

On a serious note, some stores are seriously strict about age related sales. The only other co-op store in North Devon has totally clamped down on it, and as it's currently the week where all Area Managers visit stores around the country, they might be being particularly vigilant. :)

Well surely how old you look is purely subjective. Also I have known people that look in their late twenties when they're only 16/17/18.

Yes, way too tight! I was in Sainsbury's last night and even though the legal age is 18 they say you have to be 21 or over to buy alcohol! They even stopped a mate of mine buying a bottle of Whisky for his Dad's birthday because he was 20, a fact which his ID backed up.

Not only that, they now won't sell you DVD's unless your 21 or over too.

I know it's a pain in the backside (snip)
When threads like these come up i always wonder if i'm doing something obscenely different from everyone else.

If i need to buy a drink in a pub or a shop, i need to take my wallet. Reason being that my money lives in my wallet. By the strangest of coincidences my ID (and other cards) live in my wallet too. Now here's the kicker. Because i'm already taking my wallet with me to buy the alcohol, i already have my ID on me. It's not even something i need to check - imagine that! Isnt it just great?!

(Honestly, how and why do people go out without ID? )

Some places I have been in have had little signs up saying that they ID anyone wishing to purchase an age restricted product. I think perhaps within reason this is alright - stops people kicking off/being offended when they are asked their age etc and I find it far more logical than the stupid "Think 21" scheme.

I very rarely carry my wallet around with me (only when i'm at work). I always stick whatever cash I need into my pocket if i'm slipping out, won't bother taking an entire wallet that makes my pocket bulge.

Don't blame the stores, blame this retarded government we have. It's annoying because there is a hell of a lot of laws that cater for retards, which unfourtunatly we all have to abide by.

NO ID NO SALE  it really is that easy, I work in an off license and ID a lot of people that LOOK OLDER, but you can never be sure, so we ID them, and you included if you walked in, just carry your ID its really that easy.

As a person selling you intoxicating substances I personally refuse to get a £5000 fine and loose my job, so if this inconvienences you for 10 mins then so be it matey, carry your ID and everyones a winner
