more insurance company woes.

I thought I had found the best for me this year.

swiftcover came through trumps for comprehensive.
I am 23
6 years no claims
2l 16v mondeo
20k miles a year
etcetcetc.

well, all in, with legal cover, curtesty car etctc was 420quid, including breakdown cover. nice one.

now, I want to buy a 2nd car for karting the drums around, or a van.
cant add a ford escort van to a non commercial policy.
cant add a second car to my policy.
cant drive any other vehicle as I thought I would be able to (because I am not 25)

can open another policy, but only with no no-claims (unless I was 25 of course then it would apparently be possible to get discount on a 2nd policy)

this is insane. I cant drive 2 cars at once, so why cant i insure 2 cars.

what a pain. suppose I just have to have 2 policies, or buy the biggest estate car I can find!
unless, does anyone have experience with insuring 2 cars etcetc, especially under the age of 25?

Can't you insure one car with one insurance company and another car with a different insurance company?

yes this is possible, i can have 2 policies with the same company as well.
But i didnt want to effectivel double my insurance costs per year having 2 policies.

but maybe it is the only option.
could probably get a second policy down to 300quid, which isnt that bad really.
but that means 700 quid a year insurance. which isnt too clever. and 2 x tax, 2 x MOT etcetc.

maybe one huge car is the answer, or a 4x4.

Sounds like a plan. :)

Try paying £1600 a year for insurance mate. :p

What kind of stuff are you going to be using the van for? I'm sure someone would be able to recommend something suitable for you if you're thinking of using just the one vehicle.

dont admiral give a good deal for a second car?

May be worth just moving both policies to someone else, even if you dont get such a good deal with the mondeo it may still work out cheaper!

not sure on pulling the birds in a van though. first date: come on love, hop in my ford transit for some love mobile action :)

could work I suppose, but I need all the help I can get.

I had 3 cars at one point when under 25 - and yes, it ment 3 insurance policies, meaning i have 2 lots of NCB, 6yrs on 1, 1yr on the other and the third was a classic policy so didnt gain any NCB. Costs a fortune when you can only drive 1 at a time :(

Paint SHAGWAGON down the side, crushed velvet interior, porthole window in the side and jack the back up real high. It worked in the 70's, it can't fail now :D

good plan! :)

I had a look at the multi insurance, and it came out too expensive.

so, how far does 4k stretch for the super size vehicles?
either a large estate, or a 4x4.

would like something reasonable looking (boxy volvo no thanks!) with a decent interior, a few toys, and plenty of space for drums.

too much to ask?
