aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh new X850 XT does not work

Just installed my X850xt and it wont play games! When I try toca 3, which was working with my 9800pro it worked, but when I click on test settings in toca 3 where it tests the refresh at 60hz (my lcd max) it does not show the spinning cube and crashes

I have installed the drivers which came with the card?

Whats wrong i wanna cry!!!

Do i need to do anything in bios?

Does it have a 6 pin power socket?
Is this plugged in?
Also its always worth running drivercleaner to remove old drivers before installing new ones,did you remove the old ones?

yeah the power lead is in, uninstalled old radeon drivers

Run the CCC and check the cards mem/core frequencies.Maybe its underclocking for some reason.

right just use drivercleaner. took the case cover off, removed the power cable, booted, which it says please insert power lead. so i no it aint power. went into bios and changed agp aperature is it, from 128mb too 256mb to match my card. now going to install drivers. if this dont work, in the box and back to ocuk!

nope keeps saing on monitor power saving mode, i can hear the music but the picture goes? I can exit the game blinding and it goes back into windows fine? Whats you recon is causing it?

it is even doing it on media centre, it causes the screen to turn off.

i think the card is faulty? I can watch live tv on MCE2005 for a couple of secs, then the picture goes?!?!?!? just basically anything which gets rendered full screen, after a couple of secs the screen goes blank, but i can still hear sound

IS THIS CARD DUFF CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE?

I had similar problems but with the graphics card that came with my pc, not after installing a new one, i did i fresh install of windows and it sorted the problem out.

My Powercolor X850xt is with Overclockers - I am waiting for a replacement. The card was not cooling and fragmenting in any game!

if it turns out to be duff, cant be doing with problems, someone posted the other day an issue with his powercolor 850XT, maybe its a carp card? Never used Powercolor, had a HIS before, which has been rock solid. Have not even used the thing which pees me off, spent £180 on Monday, and wont get that back until after they test it upto 10 days later. Not OCUK issue though, just would be nice to receive a quicker turn around!

Do you think if i ask them, to test the new one they will send out before, i receive it?

What a bumma. I don't know whether i can help but i feel for you so will try.
Anyways i upgraded from a 9800XT to a X800pro@pe and it was a real easy swap. Literally binned old drivers, slung in, instal new drivers job done never looked back.
In ccc somewhere there is an option to Not display things it cannot handle. Sorry my head memory is borked but its called something like that.
Check to see if that is enabled as it sounds to me like it's just switching down because of a res conflict.
Have you got a different monitor to try it with. A crt would be handy.

If i am way of base just ignore me and if anyone can clarify better what i am on about i would appreciate it.

Sent it back now, you can lock the resolution. It was defo a fault, because if I opened windows MCE 2005, it would be okay, then the screen would turn off unpredictably, might be 50 secs, then instant etc.

Same with games, could get to the main menu of Toca, get into a game, then same thing. Other times it would do it as soon as it launched.

This did not affect Windows itself, if I pressed the windows key, the desktop would come up and be okay.

i had to return my Powercolor X850 XT last month because of artifacting. makes me think how many faulty ati 850xt overclockers sell anyway

this is just something that happens in the IT world. get used to it.

glad to hear you RMA'ed it. Cancel the X850XTPE order and get a 7600GT as they perform the same/better.

(I know that was a bit biased but i just upgraded from an X800XTPE)

it looks like powercolor are pretty crap tbh. I got back an rma for an x800 pro which took over 2 months and the card i get is a bare card and there is thermal paste frickin everywhere!! it is over some of the resistors on the card. AND the cooler wasnt even on properly. If i had powered it up as i had received it im sure it would have blown. Pretty pathetic service tbh. I sent back a full retail package with games etc and i get back i bare card. I was hoping to sell the returned card but if its just a tatty bare card it wont be worth a great deal. :mad:
