AGP 9700 vs modern cards

The last decent card I had in my PC was an ATI 9700 (not Pro).

Unfortunately it went the way of all things last year and I put a cheap Nvidia 256MB 6200 in to tide me over.

Can anyone give me some idea which ATI or Nvidia card is roughly equivalent to the 9700 so that I can get some idea of where to pitch a pricepoint for a new card.

The 6200 seems to be at the bottom of the pecking order. I think the 9700 was much better than the 6200.

Please note that I am not looking for card recommendations.

Sorry about being a bit slow but I would just like to thank everyone who responded for their input. Sorry if the original post came over as a bit ambiguous. Your answers covered my intended question and then some... :)
