Hi all,

My misses had Oblivion yesterday and is now bipping at me about making it run quicker. She inherited my Dell Dimension 8300 a while back. 3.2ghz processor, 1.25gb ram and a Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card.

We've had this Dell for a few years so I'm assuming PCI Express wouldn't have been around in those days so she's gonna need an AGP graphics card.

On the Overclockers store is the Powercolor Radeon X850 XT 256mb for £176, which I've seen on tomshardware is much quicker than her 9800 Pro. I also noticed an AGP X1600 Pro 512mb from Sapphire which I know is newer technology, but thats only £100 approx which would make you believe its not as good as the X850 XT ???

I'd be grateful for any advice, as I'd prefer not to have a half crazed dark elf kniving me in the middle of the night, though if her frame rate is chugging I just might get away :)

Cheers,
Storm

If it was me, I'd go with a 7800GS, the x850 may be slightly faster (and only slightly) but it doesn't have SM3 support so you won't be able to use HDR in oblivion.

Thanks both, looks like an Nvidia then. It's more expensive but she won't be swapping the Dimension 8300 for a few years so the extra money doesn't really come into it.

Cheers,

1000th post too, hooraa :D

i can't be asked to change my current system over fully untill quad core kicks off. so looks like this card is the best option for me.
