AHCI port hang on bootup

OK, I've set my bios from IDE to AHCI mode but when it comes to starting up the computer it gets stuck on the line 'Auto-Detecting AHCI Port 1' which happens to be where my Intel 160gb SSD is installed.

If I take out the Intel drive I have no problem getting the pc past the boot screen, but as soon as the drive is installed (on no matter which socket) it will get stuck on the auto-detecting port (be it 1,2,3,4 etc).

In IDE mode I have no problems, only when switching to AHCI.

Anyone else had this problem or got some ideas of how to fix it?

Motherboard: Asus Maximus Formula
SSD: Intel X-25 160gb G2

You may have found a compatibility issue between the board and SSD. I'd try the ASUS forums or contact them via mail/support system to see if they are aware of this. I'm not sure what else the problem could be. The board isn't that new is it?
