Air Miles / Frequent Flyers

Also, unless you are flying a LOT or business, it's hardly worth collecting miles. (Etihad's excellent program is the exception) In economy, it takes forever to get off the bottom rung. I am Silver with Skyteam, but took quite some doing!

Also I fly pretty much weekly and about 50/50 longhaul/ shorthaul. If I could stick with one airline, I might get gold in a year at a push, but if you are skipping programs, you have no chance.

Well I know it's definitely true as I have just booked a honeymoon and my travel agent sorted it out for me! It will be a while before I get the stuff through but I'll post back.

Can't see any info on the DC website or on Flyertalk. Have they awarded you Silver membership already or will you accrue the status miles from your honeymoon flights?

Wow. Well enjoy! Silver is handy at Heathrow and BFS/DUB/EDI when flying BMI, for the lounge access if nothing else.

In that case I'll say hi, I'll be with my mom as we are heading over for my wedding.

Have you booked your exit row seats?
I think I'm in 18A. Do CO give free access seats to Star Alliance Gold members? United quite often bump me up to an Economy+ seat but I haven't flown CO since reaching Gold.

So I take it it's worth having then? Travel guy just mentioned the lounges too. We are going EGAC -> EGLL so probably will only get to use the facilities at Heathrow on way back. Don't think City has any lounges for BMI.

I'll try and find out more but perhaps the guy has got some promo code or something.

I'm a Onepass gold so get to book exit rows when i buy my tickets. Not flown United but had heard of the nice bumps you get, i don't think they're so nice to the CO fliers though.

With Silver you get access to the bmi lounge at Heathrow and at BHD when you're flying with bmi. You can't access any other lounges though and you can't access them if you're flying on another airline. Other benefits include priority check in at Heathrow and a 25% bonus on your destination miles.

The new priority check in at Heathrow is pretty sweet. You rock up with your bags, hand over everything and go have a seat and a drink of water while someone does it all for you :D

The bmi lounge isn't bad although I find it a bit tedious now. The main reason I use lounges is for the silence. The bmi lounge seems to have a recent influx of people who think they're big cheeses and walk around the lounge speaking into their bluetooth headset as loudly as they can about how much $$$ their business deals are worth.
The free bar can combat this. Go pour yourself a pint of Smirnoff with a dash of grapefruit juice :D

Just got my silver membership card through in post the other day. It says you did need 16,000 miles to get it. I have only flown once with BMI and that was ten years ago so there must have been some offer from the travel agent.

Apart from with BA, gold comes along very easily, given how much you say you fly can't you just get gold with the number of sectors flown? I think it's only 30 sector flights per year to get gold with Skyteam. Another of the best ways I find is with Amex linked to your preferred milage scheme. Given that you get level miles whenever you spend getting to platinum is pretty easy each year (obviously depending on how much put on your Amex).

Try 60 points for Gold on Star Alliance, i'd of thought it would be the same on Skyteam as CO just moved over recently and it is similarly structured. I didn't think CC miles counted towards Elite miles.

Looks like I will hit *Gold again this year which gives me good perks.

If you get an airline aligned Amex card they normally do.

They normally don't award status miles. You will get destination miles for redeeming against flights and other services but not elite qualifying miles. Unless someone has recently changed this?
