My uncle works at Airbus in Broughton and told me they are taking on apprenticeships.

Does anybody do this line of work and if so whats it like.

i applied a while ago, beleive they stopped taking CV's on 29th Feb. you may get one in via your uncle though.

if your interested in Engineering, but don't want to go the uni root, which takes 4 years they are a good idea.

its not just fill in work etc, they train you up in lots of skills and send you though collage.

EDIT: forgot to say, there's not enough of these things kicking around and they are massive over subscribe.

I went for a apprenticeship there, HA your lucky if you get in, thousands go for the apprenticeships there.

My auntie works there shipping parts in and out of the place.
And also my cousin worked there when i went for one, and i still didnt get in. didnt even go for a interview, and i didnt get that bad qualifications from school either.

i know, i went to an open evening in Januuary and it was packed full of Foreigners, thousands of people. put me off as i have about 7 C grade gcse's and an A Level in IT (meaning jack) but their will be thousands of A level students applying.

you just really have to hope you get in and have great grades.

I do. If you can get the job take it. Theres such a shortage no one wants to even think about working with their hands anymore. When I started the designers got the bucks. Not anymore.

Everyone wants to sit behind a PC screen, it's hard to even get apprentices stay the course.

Take an apprenticeship and use it as a springboard to gain Certification Licenses and then the worlds open to you. Its taken me all over europe, america and canada and not cost me a penny.

Somewhere like Airbus will give you the skills and confidence, but dont look at staying somewhere which is mainly production line for more than a year or two after you finish.

Don't worry if your not interested in aircraft I'm not either but they pay the bills.

The only downside really is you have to go where the runways are. If you go somewhere and hate it your looking for the next airport.

I agree with that, if you get an opportunity, jump in with both feet.

Hmm, well he was telling me they where crying out for them and the massive order Airbus have just for from the US Air Force.

No harm in trying. I am a hand on person did IT at college and I always regretted not going into a trade.

US airforce? I think he means for the A400M for the RAF. They are seriously behind.

I can't see the Yanks buying airbus aircraft for their military.

Certainly no harm in applying.

A friend dropped out of school and got himself a Rolls Royce apprenticeship (GCSE level) down in Bristol and he was a total waster, though above average grades. Not sure what kind of work he was doing.

Danny- they won the contract, though Boeing are trying to reverse it!

knowing people doesn't relay help people these days, as big company's have to have really transparent application processes, so the manages don't just go off and let there kids have fun, they want people to develop over time who will pay them back.

grades aren't always important, they want people would have life skills.

You not heard on the news that Airbus got it because of the better plane plans and Boeing are going mad becuase the US Goverment allowed to let the go to Europe while the US industry is in tatters.

Think it was 150 planes.

aren't we drifting off topic.

the A400M is actually quite a unique, fibre reinforced compost wings, if my memory serves me correctly.

just don't mention the wiring problems with the A380

Only way to get in Broughton as an Apprentice is have a father/brother/uncle who is a Freemason or a Manager working there, or be really good at football/rugby for their apprentice teams ;)
