Aircon Peugeot 207

My aircon has recently quit, car is seven years old.
Someone suggested a gas 'thingy' needs replaced or regassed?

How much would such a service cost usually?

You could be low on refrigerant charge.

Do you hear the compressor kick in when you press the A/C button and then disengage?

Costs average £50 ~

When pressed you should hear the engine rev's change slightly which means that there is still some pressure left in the system to enable the LP switch.

Ideally take it into a garage to looked at or independent specialist, I am not a fan of the Halfords do it your self kits. You need to check what the high pressure side is doing so you don't overcharge the system, also you could have relay which has failed.

I looked at a Peugeot a few years ago which had a faulty relay, the system pressure was high enough to enable the LP switch but the A/C compressor clutch did not kick in, found out a while later the owner checked / changed the relay and got his Aircon back.

Some places do free checks, have a look.

Chances are it's the evaporator up front, they tend to sit in front of cooling radiator and catch a lot of the crap off the road. I'd get someone to look at it though, you can get marker dyes run through it to save you randomly changing for new parts if it is a leak.

My Vectra had a same issue and a colleges Astra I looked at.

Had mine looked at today and it was the condenser too.

Quickfit used to do an offer whereby if after a recharge it dosen't blow colder you pay £0. I'd do that. If it works you pay the recharge cost and enjoy cold air, if something is leaking you get a free diagnosis.
All done on an automated machine so they shouldn't be able to balls it up.

If it needs a regas at that age then there's a leak somewhere I'm afraid. If it isn't low on refrigerant but won't activate then there's probably an electrical issue.

Works fine in my gf's car. It blows cold air out of the vents when asked, like any other car really?

Our one is crap. You could describe the air it kicks out as cold, but it's not particularly cold and not cold enough to justify the effect it has on the fuel economy (compared to the knackered Renault Scenic it replaced)

Perhaps french AC is just tat, a mate used to have a Laguna which had the worlds weakest climate system, could barely feel the effect even fully maxed out.
