Airport Extreme : Is it just a bit rubbish

Tried that, setup the ssid and everything else but once saved I see can't see the blasted thing when I scan for wifi

Whats the correct wireless mode to use?

Plug yourself in via Ethernet and then click the Manual setup at the bottom of the Airport Utility, Click Wireless and post a screenshot so we can see your setup, also you can check the logs by going to Advanced - Logs and Statistics to see what errors are being reported (if any).

Mine was easy

I had the same issue with mine, I had to reset it a few times before I got it working/detected been working fine for the past year though

I might be missing something silly but I thought it would always display and SSID even if it was hard rest

Have you tried setting to factory settings again? ( thats what I meant by I had to reset mine a few times? )

The only major difference I can see is that you've got the "Allow this network.." check box ticked while I haven't, oh and I've got security configured.

Open the Airport Utility and then from the file menu select the configure other option and enter the ip address to see if you can connect that way.

It just appeared in the scan and vanished again?

Going to leave it for tonight before I launch it across the room!

Could have a duff one, it happens.

It should have been painless to set it up, so unless whatever channel it's picked is ridiculously crowded then time to replace it IMO.

Edit: Get rid of all the zero's too, probably make no difference but something to try!

One other thing I just remembered sometimes the extreme decides it can't be detected but switching to other band and then running the airport utility it is instantly detected e.g. if I'm connected to the 5GHz band I switch to the 2.5GHz and hey presto it'll appear in the airport utility and vice versa. Might be worth a try.
