I bought them within 2 weeks of each other :)

The drobo IS bought specifically for my photos, otherwise i would not have needed such device, a USB Ext HD does me fine with Time Machine.

But, it is still a elegant solution with what i have.

But i think you can time machine to the ext HD plugged into the TC as well can you not?

So have the TC time machine say the iMac, and then apply a back up of an external HD connected to the imac to an external HD connected to the TC?

Because that's what i am doing now in a way, but drobocopy is the software i am using to back up my external HD connected to my imac.
 
I presume you could have software copying the backup to your airport disk yes, but this has gone way off the point.

What I was driving at in the first place is that I don't really like the TC as they had some issues which still make me mistrust it, and personally prefer an AEBS with a drive attached for redundancy.

Now you're talking about a setup involving two external hard drives and a time capsule!
