AKASA VENOM CPU COOLER AND AKASA VIPER FAN - AVAILABLE NOW

i would post temperature comparisons,
but with the glorious weather we are being blessed with at the moment, my office is very warm. its currently adding about 10'c to all of the overclocking test benches.

the venom is sat behind me at the moment on an i7920 at 4.2GHz using 1.36vcore.

the temperatures are 72, 75, 75, 73 max across the cores according to real temp. today it is a little cooler so the temperatures are more realistic.

i am using MX3 termal interface material.

i have been using it with only one fan but tried a second fan, it didnt make much of a difference.

this is the first akasa heatsink i can say that i am genuinley impressed with.
the fan is very good, much better than the apache fans. they seem to spin too slow to cool properly but the viper fan is quite quick and not too loud. its a good tradeoff especially considering the price difference between this and the megahalem.

the megahalem is still the best air cooler, but for the price this is a very very close second. and it comes with a good quality fan!

so it should cool a phenom II 955BE @stock fine then , it should also be able to handle a small overclock with this cooler to :) . i will post some pics tomorrow if it arrives and if royalmail do not mess up the delivery

Look forward to it.

I'm loving these new Akasa coolers, how does this compare to the rest of their range?

this is the best akasa cooler i have seen so far. much better than the Nero and NeroS

an akasa nero can deal with a phenom X6 at 4GHz so this should breeze it on a 955.

Depending on the socket type, the results seem to vary looking at some reviews of it. You still cant look pass Fenrir. So much bang for your buck. If you are patient it might be well worth waiting for the new Fenrir Evo edition due out soon.

http://www.bit-tech.net/blog/2010/05/17/titan-fenrir-evo-hands-on/

the fenrir evo is just a standard fenrir with a new fan. the temperatures on the fenrir are pretty much identical to the venom.

if it were my choice i would go for the venom for two reasons

1. the viper fans are far superior in quality to the fan that comes with the fenrir
2. the venom cooler has a much more intuative mounting mechanism that is much easier to fit and tighten down properly.

they are both great coolers but the akasa has the lead in the ease of use

i used the Akasa AK-455 Thermal Compound that i got from ocuk and it did not seem to spread on the cpu that good , temps in 3dmark vantage reach 50c on each core so until i get the mx3 i have just ordered no overclocking for me :( . i must say this cooler is massive comapaired to tha akasa 865 with a 92mm fan , i have about half an inch between the top of the venom and the side of my case (cm690)

Interesting that you have mounted the cooler with the fan pointing up as apposed to the usual method of rear facing.

Any particular reason?

thats the only way the clip allows using the clip for am2/am3 , tried turning the fan mounts on the mobo around so it faces the correct way and it does not work . see the grooves in the cooler base , not the heatpipe side but the other below the fins

one thing i have noticed while gaming with this cooler is that the mobo temp is higher than the cpu , temps i get from the mobo/system is 50c and the cpu temp is only 48c . i have also noticed that the mobo runs hotter due to using crossfired 5770's , i had the same when running crossfired 3870's v's a single card . temps higher for the mobo when running dual gfx cards compaired to just one

I have got one of these for my i7 950,would post a pic but my cable tidying skills are very poor and thus my new build looks REALLY messy.I have a sabertooth mobo and 850w psu idle temps are 33-37 and max load is 47 -50.Thats using the thermal paste that was supplied with the heatsink.First build ever so i cant really tell if the temps are that good or not, perhaps someone more exsperiened could comment if that is ok or not.Added an additonal fan onto the other side of the heatsink but tbh didnt see much difference so instead going to mount it on my antec 1200.According to few google searches the temps are better then stock heatsink so very happy with this product.:)
