Those small black chips are the cards VRM modules and they will get pretty hot without any extra cooling.

Too right they will. Mine were hitting 110 degrees until i put a fan over the VRM heatsink. You need that heatsink back on there. Different cooler needed i think. One of the Thermalrights or Zalmans would do nicely providing they will fit.
Should I try filing down top surface of radiator until it allows cooler to go further? That would then mean I'm altering the card instead of the cooler.

Anyone want this cooler for free and the price of postage? Just missing 8 thermal pads and a thin slice of metal. Should work perfectly though.
