Today marks one month until the biggest Alcohol Duty reforms in 140 years come into effect.

Around 10% increase in duty on spirits and upto 20% on wine:

‘Crippling duty hikes’ to raise prices for 90% of wines sold in UK

For spirits you can expect at least a £1 increase on a bottle of gin or vodka and a leap of £1 per bottle of wine.

So we’re all so skint with the cost of living and mortgages increases that the only thing we can do to stay sane is sit at home and drink wine mixed with vodka, and now they’re taking that away too.

Biggest increase in 48 years for wine. Approx. 44p+VAT per bottle retail. £2-£3 per bottle on a restaurant list. Absolute garbage and going to get worse next year.

There is a balance to that, where some reaction in the EU is high. Sat in Portugal atm and for example when my mam sold her home in faro, she was taxed 33%.

Utilities can be cut off if payments aren’t made etc (unlike in the uk). it’s not all roses here.

I’d still move out here if the money permitted, but I prefer the lifestyle in the med.

What portion of the increased cost over here is shipping? I know we pay a huge amount in duty and taxes but a Spanish Rioja is always going to be cheaper in Spain I would pressume?

Fair point but tax or shipping cost increase directly caused by Government or Brexit (one and the same?), I suppose is irrelevant. We still get shafted.
