I know there's a few aircraft buffs on here, hopefully someone can answer my question :)

I'm booking a flight on KLM airways soon and I'd like to know if I can find out the model aircraft I'd be on from the flight number? Or is it just a case of call/mail them and find out? Can't see anything on their website that tells you :(

As it's going to be a longish flight I wanna see what toy I'd have to play with and it could influence my choice of time if the plane will be different :)

Whats the flight number and/or departure and destination airport? I might know as I control them daily.

They fly all of the following (although if it's a long flight it definitely won't be one of the Fokkers):

Boeing 747-400
Boeing 777-200ER
McDonnel Douglas MD 11
Airbus A330-200
Beoing 767-300ER
Boeing 737-800/900
Boeing 737-400
Boeing 737-300
Fokker 100
Fokker 70
Fokker 50

Have to say most of the times I have booked flights I have been able to see which plane it is (although I don't normally book with airlines direct).

Yeah I can see they fly all those from their seating plans, just wanted to know specifically which one :)

Scuzi, the flight numbers are KL0861 and KL0862, from Amsterdam to Tokyo Narita and vice versa, I think it could be a 777....

I think one of the Fokkers (snigger) would be taking me from Heathrow to Amsterdam.

You should be able to get the aircraft type from the flight number and date with KLM (done this in the past) on their website.

btw, were they ok when you flew with them? Seems to be a good price for a return flight to Tokyo with them.

Or even go to airliners and check out if there are pictures of landinds and take off on specific date/time.

I'm afraid I can't help you there as it's not a London departure. The flight from Heathrow to Amsterdam will likely be a Fokker 50, bet your flight number is KLM133x where x=a number from 1-9, e.g. KLM1334 :p

Once I've gotten out of Aberdeen to Amsterdam (had problems with cancellations a couple of years ago), never had a problem with them. Last flights I had with them the aircraft even had personal entertainment systems in cattle class - that was on a brand new Airbus 330-200 I think.

Try checking to see if the flight is listed in Expedia - they tell you the aircraft type on the website.

Struggling to remember how to do it on their website, I think you take your ticket number and it gives you a flight itinery detailing flight numbers, times, gate (likely to chance), and aircraft type.

Using the aircraft type as well it sometimes lets you assign your self a seat on the plane (you can look up the seat plan).

Edit:- Go to the KLM website and try punching in your booking code in the My Booking screen.

When I flew KLM, my connect flight to Schipol was a Fokker 100. The flight from Schipol to Los Angeles was a 747-400 and the flight home from San Francisco was a 777-200. The 777 was packed with entertainment and a range of films to watch and music to listen to.

Hope that gives you a clue. I knew what planes I was flying beforehand but I can't remember why.

I just called a mate who deals with the stuff in the upper air. He reckons it will be a B772 (Boeing 777-200).

From my experience, they barely ever use the Fokker 50s. They're tiny, and they're props!

London-Schiphol flights are normally either Fokker 100s or 737s.
KLM tend to use 747s and 777s almost exclusively for their busier long didstance routes.

KLM are probably the best airline I've ever flown with, imo.

They use them for at least 4 flights a day! I work TC NorthEast Departures and handle them on a daily basis. I also get them coming back in when I'm working the Lambourne stack.

The KLM F50's are the only scheduled non-jet airliners operating out of Heathrow. I hate them because they climb like a brick and struggle to do 250Kts on departure :p

lucky you , the 777 is an awesome plane.
Too bad it isnt the 300 series equipped with the GE90 turbofans, they have the diameter of the hull of a 737 me thinks , massive that
