Alpine headunits - any good?

My component speakers sound better when running off of my Alpine HU than straight off of a JBL amp I have. Therefore, the Alpine cannot be too bad.

I'll persevere with the bidding then :)

This is quite an old one with a cassette so i can use my Ipod. hoping to get it for not much but we'll see.

yeah, very minimal on specs but they had the best sound out of the box and so didnt need any special wizardry to get it sounding better.

I'm sorry but thats rubbish. Alpine may be less bling than some other units but they are some of the most configurable I've used, and I've used a lot.

Lots of spec on anything but the lower end models.

The head units are basically the only really good things about Alpine products these days....excellent units

I have an Alpine in mine but to be honest it's pretty complicated to use and I don't see what it offers over any of the cheaper ones. I suppose the best feature is it has a Ipod cable but loads of head units have that these days - sometimes they even have a SD slot or USB port which is even better IMO.

The volume control on mine is very "digital". It's a click wheel and it doesn't have enough positions for my liking. Sometimes you just can't get the right level - too high or too low.

It has the whole "ooh look how it slowly opens and ejects the CD" thing going on but to be honest I'm not 16 any more. Just eject the CD so I can change it and stop wasting my time.

I have the iDA-X001, which is far better than the grotty OE unit that came with the car. The sound quality is pretty good even with the standard speakers, so when I get around to fitting some better speakers / amp etc it should be spot on.

The sound quality is a lot better than the Kenwood and Clarion units I've had before but I've had 2 motors fail which means I've been listening to the same CD for 6 months.

Quite a few people have had similar problems as well. Although it is limited to one range iirc. Mines a 9855 (I think).

I have the 9850ri and when it was in the Jeep it sounded much better than the standard Clarion unit. Really made a difference to the sound quality.
I wouldn't hesitate in getting either an Alpine or Pioneer H/U:)
Toying with the idea of sticking it in the A4 at the moment, so I can hide the pod away from prying eyes;)
The wiring loom costs a pretty packet at roughly £40 due to the Bose speaker system, then I require the fascia and an aerial adaptor. So, if I do it myself it's gonna cost roughly £70.

I liked the old school stuff (mid 90s)

Not keen on the current models and I personally prefer Pioneer. I want to get a 77mp for whatever car I get next.

I have recently bought a new alpine headunit, looks ace, good value for money, powers my speakers well. Couldnt ask for more

well i didn't win the auction unfortunatley :(

won a pioneer cd one instead, hopefully i'll be able to bodge my ipod into that.

You bid on a jem and ended up with a turd. ;):D

Alpine are great - far far better than the "BMW Business" radio / CD i had in my 7 Series.

It's still going to be better than the OEM Citroen one, only cost me £16 and i collected it this morning so didn't have to pay postage.

I'm pretty happy, courtesy of GSF and Ebay i've sorted my brakes and stereo out ofr £100 :D
