Alright! its time to buy + eventual build log

its not stuck at 2.8-3ghz is it.

I have given you links to show overclocked speeds of a 2400

heres another - http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2011/01/03/intel-sandy-bridge-review/14

and it doesnt have Hyperthreading!!! what have you been reading? lol

yea sorry the 2.8-3.0 was for the 2300 u originaly linked

the hyperthreading, i didnt say they had them lol just yea i suck at writing :D
dunno were it came from anyways im tired lol

but yea i cant justify spending $30 more on a cpu as i also have to buy win7
im already above my original budget as it is with the phenom 2 setup going over by more means i have to save longer for win7.. will be trialing it for 4 months (ty ms for rearm trick :P )

ino the 955 system isnt the best i could get for my budget, but itl last me a while and should i say fry the cpu or something daft, its cheap to replace
as im a noob @ overclocking this will be a test run

woulda rather burn a £120 cpu than a £150 one ;)

and admitidly overclocking seems a lot easier with 955's, lots of bios options to fiddle with on sandy's maybe sometime in the future ill go for the system u recomend then when i have more knowledge with overclocking lol

so yea your advice, while very helpful i took some of it but ima still go with the 955 even if it isnt the most powerful of the 2 its still good enough for what i do, i may (probably will) regret not getting a sandy after a while but yea.. gota learn somehow :L

lol i go with the advice stulid gave, but it seems you not going to take his advice,Reading what you wrote it dont make sense to me either, you would rather pay for a slower system and oc it,but if you blow the cpu you rather replace that then get a sandybridge as they are to hard to oc,think you should read a bit more on sandybridge,a lot have hit 4.4ghz with 1 click using the software provided in bios or windows, tbh you cant get much more easy.

but my research i found this
some website said:
What's this? The good news is that the rumors of Intel killing overclocking for non-K Sandy Bridge processors were slightly exaggerated! If you've got a CPU with Turbo Boost functionality it can be overclocked!! The bad news is that it's pretty limited. Our Core i5 2400 is rated at 3.1GHz with a typical Turbo speed of 3.2GHz with four active cores, with an absolute maximum of 3.4GHz under a single core load. By changing the Turbo multipliers to the maximum allowed either in the BIOS or the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and raising the power consumption limits to 135W we were able to get the Core i5 2400 to run at a solid and steady 3.6GHz with a full 4 core load. 2 and 3 core loads are allowed to run at 3.7GHz and under single core loads Turbo was allowed up to 3.8GHz. These are noticeable increases in speed and only added about 15w of additional power use. It was on default voltage as well.

doesnt sound like 4.4.. i dunno this is why i want to avoid it
nothings really certain yet were as the 955 people generaly know whats achieveable id prefer to have something with known limits than something like the sandy bridge were its more a trial run n people still figuring out what its capable of/ its breaking point

ino my posts dont really make sence but i know what i mean im just not so good at putting it down for others to understand aswel, i fail @ english :(

I can understand what you mean, and at the end of the day you go with what you feel best for you needs and budget,i,m sure you be very happy with what you decide to go with and thats all that matters :)goodluck with your build.

heh i doubt it, ill buy n build then want a better pc :P

but yea think ill go amd way, every pc ive ever had has been intel i think its time to see what the compotition is like

plus which ever u buy im sure ill learn a lot from it ordering later today (when i wake up) so yea OP but geil ram instead
1 thing tho any quick guides to setting the ram to run at 1600mhz in the bios? never done it before n itl be good to know before hand :)
+ will ram designed for 1600mhz but running at 1333 be better/same/worse than ram designed to be ran at 1333mhz?

I would go with the Sandy you cant really go wrong if you dont push the vcore up when overclocking and thats the only reason that some peoples CPUs were dying because they pushed it too far. Believe me you would get way more for your money going Sandy but your choice at the end of the day. Good luck in what you decide.

all orderd delivery is before 12 tomorrow, cant wait :D

gota say massive thanks to you guys who replied in my pointless threads n big shout to nathwraith for been ever so helpful so cheers guys :D

well was supposed to be here before 12, only got shipped at 11:50 n still not here :(

kinda wonder why i paid for before 12 delivery lol

alright parts turned up :D

slowly put them together almost 3 hours making sure i did it right, click power on and ... yea

fans come on n spin case lights come on, but cpu fan does not :( good job i left side off when i started else i wouldnt have noticed the cpu fan not spinning

just sits there powerd on, no beep (mentions beeps in manual so i gues it has a speaker) no matter wether i use one of the mobo video outputs or add in a card no display neither no bios nothing :(

n i was really carefull to the point of paranoid while putting it together touching the case after id installed the psu n plugged it in switched off to ground myself every 2mins lol

help please? feel bad all this hardware doesnt seem to work :(

cpu fan header in ?

Take it all out of the case and put on mobo box, try then to check the mobo is not shorting out.

Try them. That should sort it out .
