Also thinking of V8 powa - BMW

Tell that to Spie, he is similar figures......fit in a 997 911 no problem.

Hell i'm damn sure you'd be fine in a corvette or something, far more of a weekend car....

Tried a Corvette and a Mustang yesterday funnily enough - struggled to get in but, once in, was quite comfortable. Only problem they were LHD and I am not too keen on that.

Dunno how Spie got in the porsche - my mate had one and I struggled big time. It can work but not comfortable for any length of time

Maybe he's tall but an average/muscular build as opposed to the other alternative....

I play basketball so know a fair few tall folk, one of the guys is 6'9 and has no problem at all in my E92 3 series. I'm 6'4 and was 20 stone, and had absolutely no problem with a 911 and didnt even have the seat anywhere near all the way back.

Those are the opinions of someone else - not me.

As a 6ft 7in / 22stone man, I find it difficult to get sports cars and convertibles to fit me. Driving a works van through the week, a 5 series with a V8 engine is, very much, a fun car.

I think we are confusing "fun" with "enjoyment". This is no bad thing, especially since the mid-week alternative is a van, but don't delude yourself into thinking it will be a thrilling and awe-inspiring drive (well I guess compared to a van it will be). It will certainly be a pleasurable drive however.

Am open to suggestions for alternatives ? :)

CLK 500
Jag XK
RX-8 (not quite a v8 but quite a spacious sports car)
If you are brave a BMW 840?
Range rover v8

Range Rover is a bit too cumbersome for me
Not sat in an Xk - may give that a go
Never imagined an RX-8 could be big enough - there is one for sale local to me - may give it a quick once over - thanks

If you really want a V8 have a look at Monaros

Mine sounds a bit like a nascar with a wortec exhaust, loads of popping and banging on over run too. A proper noise. It also has lpg so I get good miles per £ equivalent to about 35mpg!! I saw one at that link.

Quite nice inside although I have never owned a bmw.

Lastly they are very simple mechanically so no big bills and easy to service. Engine and gearbox are pretty bullet proof.

Well, the MAZDA RX-8 is out - got in and out no problem but there is not enough headroom - I have to slouch to drive it and that gives me a sore back.

What I am about to say is meant with absolutely no offense at all and as much respect as could be had from me to you. I am simply pointing it out as an option, not knowing any background of yours at all.

Could you use a particularly special car to be an incentive to drop a bit of weight? Obviously it won't be a quick process and also won't cure your height but I'm just wondering if it would possibly open your options a little bit more and allow you to find something even more fun? Of course, there is still plenty of fun to be had out of ANY of the afore mentioned cars but as I said it's just an outsiders idea.

Again, I don't mean any offense or disrespect with this! Before anyone goes ahead flaming me.

If you like the e60, and want something more "weekendy", then try a 6-series (5 series cabriolet and coupe)

http://pistonheads.com/sales/4148603.htm

How could i forget this. I love these 6 series and they are pretty good value imo.

I was in Berlin recently and the city was full of them all zooming about making a fantastic meaty noise. They really are cool, and a bit of a monster too.

Try what I just bought. Jag S-Type R: 4.2 V8 with a supercharger. Makes a good noise. Isn't going to be cheap to run by any stretch of the imagination but hey, they are damn cheap to buy and pretty fun.

£6k drives home a nice example and you can't turn your nose up at that for 400bhp.
