altercations in the gym(anybody had any)

So you heard him muttering and you went to the effort to walk back over and "ask him if he was ok" ?

Now I am not excusing his reaction but I doubt I am the only one thinking that the WAY in which you "asked him if he was ok" was potentially confrontational... You know, like "problem mate ?" etc (this was an example, not saying you used those exact words)

Not sure how the argument escalated as it's not very clear what was said from your side... You managed to quote his phrases but not yours

Just playing Devil's Advocate here....

...as said he was mumbling and muttering so that only those near to him could hear him. I mean it was ridiculous the way all of these bods were congregating next to each other (like being in a football match) and I had to go and get this sodding bench because the previous users were too idle to put it back. I had to drag it some 40 feet going in and out of and around all these people trying my best not to aggrevate anybody and the only gap was the one next to the youth in question (Irony). Too be honest I didn't even touch him but I could accept that for some reason I may have put him off. At the start I had no real idea what his problem was but if it was as a consequence of me then at least I could attempt to either smooth the waters or apologise if I had caused him to hurt himself. It turned out to be a no-win situation because when I asked him if he was ok and tried to explain that I was moving this bench because the other guys hadn't put it back he tried to tell me it didn't belong where it was I was moving it-the ass. Then when he had had enough of this it was " I'm not being funny mate but for ****sake get out of my face" I even told him I wasn't trying to cause any aggro. I'll not be so obliging a second time. His reaction was totally disproportionall to the situation and the row got so bad that one of the guys who had shifted the bloody bench in the first place intervened to calm things down. Happy New year and all that (sarcasm) hehe, the gym is supposed to be family friendly but in reality its a mix between bodybuilders, powerlifters, cage fighters, mixed martial arts and boxers-so that might explain a lot.

clear case of someone being an retard then.

I mean sure maybe the what you did was a bit distracting, but as long as you didn't touch him then he should understand that it ain't his private gym, he has to share it with others so he should get a life. The reaction to what you did was completely disproportionate.

Fair enough.... As I said, not having a dig at you, just playing Devil's Advocate which you clearly understood :)

Can I put my money on the guy in question (and the worst offenders like him) being short? :p

5'11 to six foot -nothing to look at kind-of-a person with bad attitude or agression problems. Lol I'm only 5'8
We have had some weird types in the gym before. irish guy who use to slam 25k plates to the floor from head-height rather than place them back on the stacks. rick the slick who tried 800lb on a 45 degree leg press whilst doing dumbbell flies at the same time. Lol he was 5'4.

You shoulder press 120?

To be more exact my bad estimate concerning the comment about quadrupling: 260lb 2 reps 240lb 4 reps and 100k 2x6 reps at the mo on a smith (which is slightly cheating I know) thats with a year of not training properly due to bench press injury.

Edit: I am a pansy with shoulders compared to my mates whom I mentioned some time last year. I can match and beat one of them on arms which is very good when you consider I've spent recently 4 years in the gym but only managed 16 months decent training because of injuries etc and one of them is on the juice and trained for 12 years. The latter presses above 120 seated and unassisted with an olympic bar-and as previously mentioned does the max on a hammer press 550lb.

Not really had any tbh, a lot of people annoy me in the gym sometimes and I'm sure lots of people dislike me but I get on with it.

But one person to note:

In my old gym there was a strange obese asian boy ~18 I'd guess, creepily staring at me then smiling in changing rooms.

Tempted to ask "problem?" its more just odd than anything lol.

TBH I think that is what I'll be doing tomorrow unless my mates are in. If not i'll have to start taking my mp3 player in and not communicate with the plebs incable of churning out a decent and civil conversation.

I just stick my headphones in and get on with it, I don't really like chatting to people at the gym. I'll acknowledge somebody if I know them and maybe have a few quick words but people know that if you have your headphones in it's a sign you don't want to be bothered. It generally helps me steer clear of any problems too, I can't think of any occasions I've had a problem with someone.

The one thing I don't like is when the gym is really really busy and you have to wait to go on the bench/machine you actually want to use.
