Hi,

I've always had Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on my MX5, but I can't seem to find any anywhere in 195/45/15. Last time I needed a pair I struggled to find them but my local tyres place managed to source a pair in Germany.

I am pretty sure I will need two when it goes in for the MOT on Wednesday so I am trying to find a new tyre that will go well with the remaining two GSD3s?

The GSD3's are directional (chevron/arrow style tred) so I think its best if the new tyres were also this design? The car is a MK2 MX5 1.8S, so would be interested in others owners choices.

Toyo Proxes T1-R any good?

Cheers

It really depends what works on the MX-5, but Proxes always seem to have a good review. I've only used them on a Merc A Class. No complaints, and a lot better than the stock tyres on that car.

Falken FK-542's can be good, so can Avon ZZ3 and the Vredsteins are similar (Utracs look good, but no idea on performance, Sessantas are getting good reviews, but are not symmetrical patterned.

OT: Thought i recognised your username, haven't seen you posting in a while?!

Camskill have got uniroyal Rainsport 2's which are very similar tread pattern to GSD 3's for £47.60. I can state that they have been very good for me this last year, even when pushing it on track. The wear rate so far suggests that i may well get around 20k out of them too. That's on the front of a 230hp FWD car.

They are £35.10 each if you move up a profile to 195/50.

Any good to you? http://www.event-tyres.co.uk/tyre-search-results.php?make=GOODYEAR The price is for mobile fitting too.
Cheers, although £200+ for two is a bit more than I was hoping to pay, even if that is fitted. I remember paying ~£100 for two of these fitted only a few years back!

Why do you want a 45 profile over a 50?
I am sure this is what has always been fitted to my alloys? (the standard 5 spoke Mazda sport ones). Perhaps this isn't the case, if so I gather the 50 profile will be cheaper? Although I assume it wouldn't be advisable to have a mix of 45/50 between the front and back?!

Although changing to the 50 still doesn't find me any GSD3s.

Sound good, and much cheaper!!

Would still like to hear what other MX5 owners are wearing? I am sure we have one guy who tracks his and recommended a tyre other than the GSD3 that was virtually the same.
