I'm not a big fan of itunes really, the fact that I have to sync drives me mad, and I'm looking for an application that will let me drag and drop onto the ipod, or transfer directly kind of thing. With my 4th gen ipod I used winamp, which was fine. But winamp doesn't seem to transfer video, so it's a bit useless with the 6th gen classic. I've also tried Floola, MediaMonkey and YamiPod and had troubles with them crashing when transferring large amounts of data (queuing up 10+GB).

E-cookies waiting!.

Well, I gave in, Itunes it is. Turned out the latest winamp DOES deal with video transfer, but whenever I do transfer video with winamp my ipod (front end) acknowledges the fact that drive space has been used, but says 'no videos', 'no music' etc and has to be restored in Itunes. Ho Hum :).

I bought a program from Redchair called Anapod, It is quite good, low memory usage and gives free upgrades. You have to pay for it but it works out at not much when changed from dollars to pounds. It supports video too, I am not sure about DRM stuff, I can't quite remember.

I am back with iTunes now that's not to say the program wasn't good, I only used it in the first place because my old laptop was suffering from bloat.

You could also try songbird, its a cross between itunes and firefox. It is only in dev preview now but it is reasonably stable, can't hurt to give it a spin.

Cheers for the reply chap. I'll have a look at these :).

Isn't there an issue with using any of the newest iPods with any software other than iTunes? I remember reading that Apple had changed the way the database was stored or something, and that it was making it extremely difficult for third-party developers to get software working with the iPods (hence why Winamp won't work).

I heard that too, from what I understand, open source developers figured it out something to do with a "hash" being inserted somewhere. Anyway I think its been addressed already. Never used WinAmp so I don't know about that specifically. but I should think it will be patched sooner or later.
