Hi all,

How much should I expect to pay for a replacement alternator on a J reg escort including fitting?

Many thanks
Paul

£30, 35 max for the part then an hours labour? thats if you source the part yourself :) If you dont, you ll end up paying 100 quid for the part :(

My N reg escort worked out at £50 with taking back the old unit

Took 20 mins for me to change
Taking back the old unit where? Is it the kinda thing someone can do with no knowledge of cars? ie get a manual and do it?

You buy the unit for (say) £100 then you return the old one (for them to recon) and they give you back £50 so in the end it costs you £50..

If you have ramps then its a peice of ****, otherwise its more of a pain than actually hard

All it is is 2 bolts, 1 belts and a power cord..

Take out the power lead, undo the bolts the belt then slips off.. take out old unit.. then do the resverse for putting it on, all you have to remember is before you tighten the bolts make sure the belt is tight if not the alternator will slid on the bolt holders to make it tight

If your not sure goto the libary and get a haynes manual

got a mate who can get me a refurb alternator with 1 year guarantee for £50, but wants £50 to fit it. From what ppl have said, thats a bit much aint it?
