Always thought PC gaming was losing to the Consoles...

Yup. PC gaming is dying, as well we know from the 500 threads a week we have on the subject.

Piracy is killing it. Consoles are better and have more choice and less piracy. Woe is the PC. The end is nigh, the consoles are coming!

oh, wait...

I wonder how much of an impact Steam has had on that? All PC games i've bought in the last year have been from Steam, especially now that its in UK currency and the pricing is more competitive. All their special offers etc.

I personally don't own a console - If I did, it would be a wii, not for gaming, for fun. - PC is king for games. The on-line experience talking to console owners is very different to PC gamers, where as we rent servers and have control over n00bs on them, not sure about console owners.

I would say in a generalise term that PC owners who game, are on a level above console owners, in such as, we teak, we change hardware, we change settings and configs for games and we spend a lot more money too.

PC is cutting edge, consoles are not.

PC is king of the world technology wise but if PC gaming were really that healthy how come its getting less and less attention from all the big developers and more often than not PC ports are becoming an afterthought??

I would have thought that it would go the opposite way and get more attention not less surely especially as there are no console royalty fees to pay!!

a lot of that 11billion is probably mmo subscriptions though as it seems like they are counting them.
pc game releases have declined since i first bought a PC and there are a lot less games that intrest me there seemed to be a wider range of titles available back around 1999

Unlike consoles which are dominated buy a few developers, the PC allows anyone to create games.

There are 1000's of companies developing games for the PC (where is that link of upcoming games that someone posted in the last PC games are dead thread)

The personal computer is king in the world of games, according to a new report by the PC Gaming Alliance.

Impartial.

Up next after the weather: Levi says "jeans are good"

EDIT
Before anyone rolls their eyes and grunts, I just spent £400 on pc upgrades (should be coming today, yay!). I'm just not that gullable or desperate to cling to every news snippet like this.

1000's of companies devloping games maybe a lot of them will probably never get finished and the ones that do get released might not be seen for a few years, a lot of probably crap indie or ports.

im more bothered about games that are on the pc first without having a console interface or limitations because they need to work on consoles aswell.

What we need is some proper sales statistics, which include sells though Steam, D2D, and many many smaller online download services.

Even in the past 12 months, I've spend more money on steam than I did my whole life on retail copy's.

what we need are more quality games i dont care about the revenue generated.

i would struggle to name 10 pc games from last year never mind 10 top quality pc games.

:D

all what this 'PC Gaming Alliance' seem to do is make these press releases every 6 months insted of doing something meaningful like convincing there members to make games for the pc

aye.

What I'm so confused about still is though why don't amd and nvidia sponsor ((exclusive) pc) games partly ?

So do I about console games :p.
Neither pc or 360 or ps3 have 10 good exclusives.

As for cross platform ( be it across pc and consoles or just for 360 and ps3) games:
I highly enjoy(ed) Fallout3, L4D, GTA IV, CoD4, Soul Calibur 4, CoH: OF, Supcom: FA.
And I'm eager to buy ( but broke) Empire:TW and DoWII.

Spot on - all Epic do is moan, grumble and complain that "piracy is killing PC gaming - so we can't be bothered with it anymore". Utter morons. They'd make a mint releasing Gears 2 on the PC - the only reason they don't is because they're in bed with Microsoft.

you wont cause theres no such thing as "pc games" anymore.

its a game made for consoles then adapted for us.

I heard the "PC Gaming Alliance" is a form of wrestling entertainment. I'm pretty sure The Rock and Triple H head up the board of directors and will lay the smackdown on any console jerbronies

I can never look too much into this really. WoW alone rakes in 1 billion of that revenue, then theres the other MMO's, and it also includes "casual" games which are absolutely huge. It would be more intresting having the revenue of what most of us consider games, ya know, large budget heavily advertised stuff with modern graphics. Then we would see if its still bigger than console revenue..........

I haven't seen Empire:TW or DoW II come to console at all.
RTS and TBS games will always flourish on pc's, simply because a controller sucks even more for them than for shooters.

Until there will be mainstream mouses + keyboards for consoles and more strategy games for console, Strategy fans like me will never move away from pc, I value strategy games over any other genre and wasted more time on strategy games than on all other genres together.
