Hi guys!

Just sold a item on ebay and he made a paypal payment today, which i accepted and sent the money to my bank today (but paypal states 5-7 working days for it to clear into my account)

Now i told the guy i wasnt willing to post the item until the funds had cleared into my account and he is kicking up a fuss saying he wants the item for this Friday....

Am i in my rights to wait until the funds have cleared?

One of the main reasons i cant post it until the funds clear is im skint LOL!

What do you guys think?

Thx!

In truth I would say yes you are, there is no valid reason for the buyer to be made to wait

re the postage then borrow it until the money clears

If you can't afford it you can't afford it, but if you can and you didn't state you'd withold then you should send it IMO.

The whole idea of Paypal is that it's instant. If the funds go into your Paypal account and you are sending to a verified address you should be grand.
If it does turn out to be fradulent, even if the money is in your account, you will owe Paypal the amount.

You might as well just send it. Although at the same time you never can be too careful.

I usually post as soon as payment is made, you may end up getting negative feedback for this transaction if you delay. It takes 5-7 days to withdraw funds to an account, is this what you mean?

Its not his fault that paypal takes 5-7 days, as far as he is concerned he paid. So yes he is right to kick up a fuss, send his item soon.

there are different types of payment that can be made with paypal, the instant one (most common) and another called e-cheque which takes 5-7 days to clear into your paypal account, it sounds as though the buyer has paid using the e-cheque method (which i have also accidently done before)

the cash he has sent is now in limbo and the transaction wont be completed for a few days , i would explain this to him as you technically do not have the cash, and if it doesnt clear then you are ****** , its basically the same as you would have to wait for a normal cheque to clear

its not unfair of you at all

I sent a payment by e-cheque also by mistake, and had to wait for it to clear before the item was shipped. This was from an ebay shop, so if he has done the same then your ok delaying posting.

if its taking 5-7 days to clear then, most likely he has sent you an e-cheque (which if you log into your paypal account and view the transaction) there will be a note from paypal at the bottom telling you not to snd any of the items untill the payment has cleared.

Not all PayPal payments are instant depending on the type the buyer sends, so if it hasnt cleared - then no you are not been unfair.

Not your problem he sent a payment that takes a x amount of days to clear and, when sending payments like that PayPal even states that they take x amount of days to clear.

The guy made an instant payment by paypal not e-cheque. The reason its taking time now is due to the OP transferring the funds from paypal into his bank account - this has nada to do with the buyer as he has paid instantly or else the funds wouldnt be in the OPs paypal account already.

**EDIT** If he paid by e-cheque the OP would not be able to transfer funds into his bank account as he would have to wait for the e-cheque to clear in his paypal account first.

Yeah verified Paypal account takes it out of his instantly then you have to wait for it to "clear" so PP can make their bit of profit with your money.

If it was me buying your thing, id be a bit irked that you said i had to wait for it to be availible to you, as many said thats the whole point of PP. HOWEVER if you stated that on the auction in the first place then its your call really.

E-cheques-unverified PP is a pain in the ass, i wouldnt even accept it personally takes ages.

If its not a large sum of money i use PP if its £100s I always try and see if we can do an over the counter or other method, OFC thats a ton of hastle too.

Personally I think you are out of order. Paypal is instant and you are free to use the money in your account to buy other items from Ebay instantly, as well as from some other online retailers. Even if you are removing the cash as a safety measure, Paypal can just charge your account and send a debt recovery agency if you are unwilling to pay. It is your choice to transfer the money out of your Paypal account, not the buyers.
