Am I in turbo mode - i5?

Hi all,

I have not overclocked my CPU (I sort of want to, but don't want to damage it or void the warranty) but I just looked on CPU-Z and my frequency is fluctuating but it is always around the 37xx.xMHz range

It is a 2500K so I thought that should be around 3333MHz? Or am I wrong? It is my first ever build so I'm not sure

All I am doing is web browsing, so if the readout does mean I'm in turbo mode, why am I? If I'm only browsing the web

The turbo mode on the 2500K will reach 3.7GHz when a single thread is active. It could be a background Windows process that is causing the activity?

Hmm not sure, anyone any ideas or how would I check this?

on P8Z68 mobo, turbo mode is on automatically. You need to go to bios to disable it.

Ahhh right, didn't know that

I assume leaving it constantly in turbo mode won't do it any harm as it is the same as a small overclock??

If it won't do any harm then I'll leave it because I'd rather be running at 3.7GHz instead of 3.3GHz

It's practically illegal not to OC a 2500k isn't it? Turbo is fine to leave on, your cpu will invariably outlive it's usefulness unless you misshandle, cook or over volt it

HAHA, I have a Gelid so I know the temps will be OK, I just don't want to damage anything, lol

Stay under the voltage/temp threshold and you'll be fine. Worst that can happen really if you don't do something really daft is a hardlock or bsod, reset bios and try again

Will make a post in the Overclocking forum first and see what people say, some people there might have some recommended settings I could use

Just use The ASUS auto overclocker function if youre not sure.

You'll easily achieve an OC. Nothing dangerous about it if you dont go over the limits.

Stay under 1.4v and dont go over 80oc.

You may be able to use autovolts for a mild overclock. say 4.2ghz

I heard though that you can get much lower voltages manually? I would like to do it properly

You should be able to simply adjust the multiplyer. Change to 45 an you're sitting pretty at 4.5ghz.

Then check out your temps. Voltage should be adjusted by mobo and won be too high. You can prob run it lower voltage, but that would mean fiddling.

I run at 4.5 without touching anything else and get about 60 degree under load. (air cooling)

Thanks but I can't seem to find the multiplier, I can only see BCLK/PCIE Frequency?

Where abouts is it?

Also, does it void the warranty?

set Ai Overclock tuner to Manual, then Turbo Ratio to By All cores, then below it there is a white box, that's where you type the multiplier.

Do I need turbo mode enabled to be able to see the turbo ratio settings because Deception said in my other post to disable turbo mode?

On my mobo, if it's disabled, the box for typing the multipliers will not show so it should be enabled. I don't know about other motherboards though.

Yeah, I have done it now, it had to be enabled on mine too
