I've just purchased this prebuilt PC for £600:

Specification

  • Windows 10
  • Intel® Core i5-6400 Processor
  • RAM: 8 GB / Storage: 2 TB HDD
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
  • Type: Gaming PC
  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64-bit)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6400 Processor, Quad-core, 2.7 GHz / 3.3 GHz with Turbo Boost, 6 MB cache
  • Memory (RAM): 8 GB HyperX FURY DDR4 (16 GB maximum installable RAM)
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 (8 GB GDDR5)
  • Storage: 2 TB HDD, 7200 rpm
  • Motherboard: ASUS H110M-R
  • Wireless: No
  • Ethernet: Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000)
  • USB: USB 3.0 x 3, USB 2.0 x 3
  • Video interface: HDMI x 1, DisplayPort x 1, DVI x 1
  • Audio interface: 3.5 mm jack
  • Other ports: PS2 keyboard & mouse
  • Optical disc drive: DVD/RW with double layer support
  • Expansion card slot: PCI Express 3.0/2.0 (x16) x 1, PCI Express (x1) x 2
  • Sound: 5.1 surround sound
  • Other features: Red case LEDs, Side window
  • PSU: Corsair VS550, 550 W

From looking at the parts it seems to work out at around £930 so seems to be good value for money.
I'll be adding some additionals components such as SSD and another 8GB ram so it'll end up at £700.

I suppose I'm just looking for ressurance that this spec can't be touched for the money and a manual build by myself would be much more money.

Windows 10 licence and a 1070, it's certainly not a bad deal. It's not overclockable, but you could do a lot worse.

Cheapest 1070 on here currently is £380 so the rest of the hardware was only £220.. Not a bad haul. It's a solid system.

Lack of SSD drive lets it down but there's going to be some compromise at that price.

DDR4 ram is stupidly expensive at the moment, and you might find 8gb does you fine, I've got 16gb but it rarely gets over 8gb usage. So I'd hold off a ram upgrade unless you really need it.

It's all well very priced, but still the CPU is the limiter. Is there any movement on that?

The second one with the addition of SSD and more ram is well worth the extra hundred..

It's a non overclockable skylake system, but it's a pretty solid package for the money.
