Am I the only one who doesn't seem to 'get' Twitter?

I honestly don't see the point.

I remember signing upto it simply because it's free advertising but I haven't really used it and from what I can tell it's just Facebook status updates and thats about it?

Can anyone explain it better?

I didn't get it at 1st.

But it's really a blog for someone who has nothing to blog about, the 140 character limit forces you to keep it brief, and as a result, more interesting.

It has user derived syntax, which is a really exciting concept if you're into user friendly application development.

And facebook status actually copied twitter. I don't use facebook, but I do twitter.

I bet your a right miserable git :p

He's right to be paranoid, if your phone can run applications, such as java, then your network service provider can most likely install them without you noticing.

It is a commonly used surveillance tactic that an application be installed which causes the phone to open the mic and transmit whatever it's picking up, even on a schedule, and even when your phone appears to be off.

Right, but what about if a family member ever needs to contact him in an utmost emergency when he isn't at home?

There is no privacy in this day an age, and I can recall several times having a mobile being necessary, to avoid having one due to being paranoid about people knowing where you are is frankly ridiculous.

The same way i did 20 years ago you do not :D

He's on the internet, so already his privacy is exposed. If someone with half a brain REALLY wanted to find out about him they could, simple as that. So considering he's already exposed. Tefal proved this and he's not even a hacker!

But not having a mobile phone simply because he doesn't want people to know where he is yet posts on a public forum is kinda contradictory :p

That is basically it, the difference is famous people and big companies use it, making it actually worthwhile to read the updates if you have the right people/companies added.

Yes, that is true, but i am also right.

Why should anyone be able too tell you where i am, and what i am doing unless i say they can.

I could go on all night about why a mobile phone is such a good thing to have but it'd be pointless. Lets keep the thread on topic.

...from what I can tell it's just Facebook status updates...
...which I also don't get. What do the 600 people, sorry "friends", you have never actually met care about what you had for dinner or are whether you are feeling grumpy? Yes OK, I don't "get" social networking either...

I found out my friend beat cancer from his Facebook status update, terrific news if you ask me :)

I used it for an hour or so, then i got bored.
I can see the point of news companies following celebs, etc on it tho. But i think it's pretty sad to follow one yourself.
