Am I?

This is the biggest problem with anything like this... Rather than "sorry if I offended you" it's become "you shouldn't be offended - suck it up".

Just because someone doesn't think something is offensive, it doesn't mean it isn't to someone else. Freedom of speech 'demands' that we can say whatever we like, and people need to just 'live with it' if they're offended.

Of course, if they should say something that genuinely offends us, we have every right to retaliate...

The old adage "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" is lost. It's become "if you don't like what I say, stfu and go away".

Civilisation indeed.

Considering that the question was relating to whether or not a particular statement was racist, or if Linda was being oversensitive, I saw no problem with giving my opinion on the matter.

As you bring it up though, I believe that people are too soft and too easily offended. Perhaps Linda has a right to be sensitive, it sounds like she gets a bit of abuse in real life. What it comes down to though, is that if she doesn't like the material posted on this forum, and which is approved by the moderators, there is a big red button in the corner of the window.

If the moderators were to consider it offensive, it would have course be a different matter, but thus far there is no evidence of this.

Unfortunately, that's very subjective. Swearing is a great example these days, as many people don't see a problem with having some words as part of their everyday language - perhaps even at home - whereas others wouldn't consider swearing except for in exceptional circumstances (if at all).

Very true. No matter anyone's opinion (and most is just that, mine included), if you don't like the 'tone' of the forum, and the moderators are happy that it's within the rules, don't hang around complaining.
