As topic, I need AM2 motherboard with 8 SATA II connectors as my add-in sata pci card gives me no end of problems. I have a AM2 4800 X2 running at stock and a ATI 4870 also at stock. I would rather keep all my components and spend as little as possible on a new mobo.

Six SATA sockets MIGHT suffice if there are no 8 socket models but this will mean i will have to hot swap drives from time to time so will be a pain.

I don't need SLI and dont know enough about the differences between the chipsets (nforce etc) to have a preference.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your reply, one of those will do if i can't find anything better, but i really hope to find an 8 port mobo, are there any manufacturers that make one?? even if they are not currently in stock.

I have done some more searching and it seems that there are no AM2 boards with more than 6 SATA ports, so i have decided to bite the bullet and get a socket 775 board and a cheap CPU like the 5200 because i have found the Abit AB9 PRO has 9 (yes nine!) SATA ports.

Unfortunatly it seems to be out of stock with no ETA on the overclockers site as i think its a bit old now but it serves my purpose well and even leaves a spare port for the future.

perhaps i will be able to get a few quid for my old chip and board to put towards the new one as well.

If anyone knows is the chipset any good in the abit board, its an Intel® P965 / ICH8R Chipset
