I have a corsair air 240 case. It will only take matx and mini itx motherboards.

I need a out of the box motherboard which is compatible with ryzen. will be a 1700.

I also need the motherboard to be able to take 2 GPU's. It's for rendering aunt is at university doing some crazy modelling, etc as well as animation, etc. So it doesn't need to be SLI or crossfire jsut have 2 GPU slots so I can shove 2 cheap GPU's in there to give her enough rendering grunt. it's also why i have opted for ryzen for encoding, photoshop, etc.

motherboard the cheaper the better. but i prefer to stick with MSI or gigabyte. had loads of issues with asus and asrock in the past.

another post reminding me of my uni days (games design) - 2 x 8800 gtxs! then 2 x 295's :D

problem you have with Ryzen mATX boards is that the GPU slots are 1st and 4st PCIe bracket slot on the case- so your top GPU can be 2 slots but bottom will have to be a single slot .
go for the Gaming 3 over the HD3 as we know it works with these two most common recommend ram sticks

rendering take a lot of effort from GPU - cheap ones/older ones , even in SLi might be slower then a single decent mid tierd GPU like GTX 1070 - not sure if you can still pick up 980 Ti for £200- would be a good shout but need a good PSU

ryzen is a good shout for the amount that will happen in background- if solely for Photoshop then intel would have been better .

I had 3DS Max, Unreal engine, photoshop, video editing alogn with a few chrome pages up and youtube videos- constantly dragging UV maps back and forth from 3D max to photo and back - does all start to ad dup, but this was in 2006 odd with Core 2 Duo then Quad Core

i believe the 2 GPU's are both dual slot.

can go intel then. cofffeelake? 8700 (the non K version) when it's in stock or is it cheaper/better to go with kabylake?

also RAM won't be an issue with intel. she just got some cheap crucial stuff 2400mhz and 16GB. prices are really high. might get her an extra 8GB or 16GB if it struggles.

I know you are not keen on ASRock but they do have a board that suites :-

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asro...am4-ddr4-micro-atx-motherboard-mb-154-ak.html

AB350M Pro4 AMD B350 (Socket AM4) DDR4 Micro ATX Motherboard

i read a review that says gpu slot starts at 2.

are you sure 2 x dual gpu's will fit in this? with my case.

it's cheap so may be worth a punt. however ASROCK motherboards I've had in the past have been terrible. you get what you pay for IMO and this is a cheap budget brand and it showed in the past. have they improved in the past 10 years?

depends on if shes rendering from CPU as well - raytracing uses CPU- more cores/threads the better! unfortunately the 8700 is poorly prices compared to the i5 8400 and ryzen 1700.

only one on intel platform that has GPU slots 1 and 3

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...et-1151-ddr4-m-atx-motherboard-mb-32k-ms.html

there are some cases that are mATX format that have 5 slots at the back to allow the Gaming 3 and others to work

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £61.09
(includes shipping: £11.10)

one of the smallest mATX cases and in alumin

the above asrock board wouldnt work, need top 1st slot and 3rd slot on a standard mATX 4 slot case- like the Gigabyte, need a 5 slot case
