Amazon Announcement Day 06/09/2012 – 18:30 BST

So in the UK we get.

Kindle Fire: £129 (think slightly upgraded BB Playbook with 8GB storage)
Kindle Fire HD 7: £159 (think proper Nexus 7 competitor with 16GB storage)
No Kindle Fire HD 8.9 yet. (think full iPad 3 competitor)

All will be ad supported via the lock screen.

Not too bad...

So how do the specs of the 7" HD compare to the nexus/ galaxy 7?

More or less the same, not to sure about the SoC, it has better storage as standard as it starts at 16gb thou and topping off at 32gb.

On a side note, anyone know if these will ever get some stock android love, I dont care too much for amazons crap.

Possibly through some modding over at XDA, but definitely not through Amazon. Take a look at the forums for the original kindle fire over at XDA developers, if there's some stock android ROMS for that, then it's a decent bet they will be able to make them for this too.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 at $299 is pretty remarkable. Comes at a full $100 cheaper than the iPad 2.

1200P IPS display for $299. iPad 3 will get its sales seriously dented.

Kindle Fire HD 7 is worse than the Nexus 7 though. So a non starter for anyone that does their research.

Soc: Dual-core,
1.2GHz OMAP 4460

Seems a bit weak compared to the Nexus 7. Is this the same chip as the Galaxy Nexus?

It is still an A9 though, so really the "only" difference is 0.1GHz and dual core vs quad core. So for general usage I imagine it would be fine, obviously cannot say for sure without playing with one.

Not sure what the GPU is like on these OMAPs though...
