It looks like your AIO has got an air bubble trapped in it somewhere.

Ye quite possible, just decided to move on to the AC one but might get it checked out and sell on etc.

I have 2 x140mm intake fans in front and 3 x 120 fans pushing air out at back and on top in my Lian li case. This is with a Noctua DH 14 air cooler on the CPU. It is all very quiet.

Nice, I only have two intake fans, I think I need a bigger case with better airflow plus fans.

The Q300L has a reputation for poor thermals even though it seems like it has a lot of ventilation.
My old 2600x (95W) with stock cooler in a Q300L didn't hit the 40/50C with no load that you're seeing though so I'm not entirely sure it's a case issue. Try 1 intake 1 exhaust for now?

It could be that the combination of fans I have is causing turbulence, but I'm literally seeing 15C rise ( from 35ish to 50+) when I put the side panel on.

I got my 5600x in an ancient case (antec p182) and that idles at 33c and prime95 load of 88c running 115w ppt.
You must have serious case cooling issues for temps to rise so much with side panel on. You sure you got the case fans in the right direction? Get some pics up.

Mounting the cooler at the top (exhaust) and using the front as an intake may work better.

Yeah top mount that at the very least and have some cool air intake at the front. With that arrangement you have the GPU actually blowing air up towards those intake fans, it can't be efficient at all.

Wow! Made a big difference, surprised.

Switched the CPU cooler to the top of the case as an exhaust and put my two case fans at the front as an intake. Then added another exhaust fan at the rear of the case.

Saw 28C with side panel off, from a cold boot, 30C with panel on. After some benchmarking it then settled at high 30s to 40C idle (panel on).

At load CPU hit 69C max and GPU 76C max (no undervolt yet).

Might be time to dabble in some light overclocking and lowering voltage if possible.

just increase the ppt which will increase all core clocks on heavy workloads.

Thanks will look into it. Slightly conflicting information online as many say to reduce this to make more power effecient as the default setting is too high.
