Hi,
I originally bought an AMD 64 Opteron 3200 when they first came out along with a MSI RS480M2-IL mobo, recently i was doing an upgrade and heard a bang, i assumed this was the PSU and and then went and bought a new one. I then plugged it into the board and went to power it up and got absolutely nothing.
So now im guessing this is the mobo aswell.
Can anyone suggest a Mobo for a replacement for my old mobo?
I look on OCuk and other seller sites and see there are very limited socket 939 mobos now. Am i only limited to this one mobo on OCuk Asrock 939NF6G-VSTA Micro ATX?

Thanks

Ross

Sorry Its been a long time since I have done any system building, can anyone please clear this up for me, i just need to know weather buying an AM2 socket mortherboard will support my AMD 3200+ Opteron 64, are there any considerations when buying a mobo for this CPU ie power etc?

Also when moving my processor to the new motherboard will i need to remove thermal paste from Heatsink with special cleaning fluid and then re-apply the paste to the CPU?
Can you buy CPU heatsinks with thermal paste already applied now days?

Thanks for any help.

Looks like the Asrock 939NF6G-VSTA Micro ATX is the only 939 motherboard that they have. I'm sure theres others elsewhere though.

An AM2 motherboard will not support your 939 cpu either.

And yes, you should clean the heatsink off and re-apply thermal paste, however you dont need special cleaning fluid... something with alcohol or acetone in should be fine :p
