AMD Athlon Price Cut Coming

How long does it usually take for price cuts to trickle through?
Looking at getting a few of the low power 3800s for family rigs. I take it these are gonna be cut too? Or only certain chips? (can't be bothered to read the story :p)

What the hell. I just bought a x2 3800+ cpu from ocuk as i didnt think it would go lower than 41.11. Now this. Damn price wars. I always pick the crappest times to buy.

Dude, £41.11 is a steal for an X2 3800+ for someone on S939.
Especially if you then overclock to 2.8Ghz like me. :p

Pretty well keeps up with my E6600 @ 3.2 in most things tbh.

ha, yea right :p

Although it depends on what he does and GPU.

If he has a 8800/X1900XTX or better and runs lower than 1600x1200 or does photo/videoing editing then a C2D will kick the AMD ass into next week.

Otherwise, no, not much diff :p

Specs in sig. Just browse net in ff, listen to music, play games mainly spearhead and maybe oblivion and call of jazures etc if new cpu cuts the mustard compared to 3500+ im on now.

Well it seems like a bold move by AMD considering they still have no rock solid date on there new range of CPU's. An X2 4000+ around £36 +VAT would be an excellent contender to the super low price and value E2XXX range of Core 2 Duo's. Then the Athlon X2 6000+ at ($169) £89 + VAT would embarass the E6320 & E6420 at stock speeds, it would seem that the consumer is continually winning with this constant tit for tat price cutting by AMD and Intel. :)

There's absolutely no ass kicking whatsoever. :p

In my testing, games are a few fps faster, and encoding video has been a couple of minutes better, but no more than that.

I've been thoroughly underwhelmed with my C2D tbh.

It hasn't lived up to the hype in my book.

Perhaps there's something up with your C2D setup then, as clock for clock the C2's considerably faster than a X2. @3.2Ghz the C2D should provide performance comparible to an X2 clocked to impossibly high numbers... probably around the 4Ghz mark.

OMG i payed £50 pounds for the cpu then it drops in price to £45 now its going down again. I hope its only for AM2.

Question.

Does anyone know how much a cpu actually costs the manufacture?

Being top dog obviously artificially inflates prices, as with most components, but does a top end C2D actually cost anything more to make than the bottom of the range?
