when i change my FSB it wont change in windows? for eg:

I can set it to 400 x12 and bios will say its 4800mhz but in windows its only saying 2.4ghz? Can anyone tell me what i need to do to fix this

i can only change the multiplier to get higher clocks changing the FSB will not work :/

Asus a8n SLi se , mobo

EDIT:

This is a new CPU and i havn't re-installed windows .. maybe this is why?

I think youre confusing multiplier with FSB.

The FSB is 200 by default for that cpu and the multiplier is 12.

The multiplier is locked and cannot be changed on your cpu. The only way to overclock is by upping the FSB.

Not sure where youre getting 4800Mhz from but your bios will display your cpu as a 4600+ on bootup and its showing 2.4Ghz in windows as it is the default speed for a 4600+

Also its highly unlikley that your CPU will run at 400FSB, i think youe mobo will top out at 260 ish

No i'm not :) i can change my multi from auto - 12 right.

FSB Will go upto 400.. And as i boot theres a bit that says what your CPU speed
is etc etc just before it starts loading windows mine says 4800mhz. But once i get into windows it says my fsb is 200 and multi = 12

So no matter how much i change my FSB nothing will change in windows.

Someone needs to read up on what sort of FSB's are achievable with 939... that's not been done even with phase.

No idea how to fix that problem though :\

So you put it straight up to to 400?

Try something more conservative like 225Mhz first as theres no way on earth that cpu and board will run at 4800Mhz, i know as i used to have that board and that cpu. Youd be lucky to get more than 2.8ghz out of it imo.

Have a look at the sticky and it will give you a step by step guide.

And when i said the multi is locked i meant that you cant change it up, you can only lower it. :)

i didn't change it straight to 400.. i went up by 5-10 and then i noticed it wasn't changing in windows so i started changing it by a lot... then it reached 400 and still nothing..

But bios says my CPU is @ 4800mhz lol

windows says 2.42ghz

Put the FSB back at default for starters, then update the bios on the board, could be a bug, seems whatever you set isnt sticking, and updating the bios would be the only thing i suggest at this point.

Do so at your own risk.

How would i update the bios.. never done it before

Exactly. Its a do at your own risk when you've never flashed a bios before, it can be all fine, and other times get bulls up.

Google be able to give you all you need to find regarding 'flashing/updating' your bios.

Also, which CPU did you have in before that processor?..... as in did you use a single core cpu in that same board?....... could be running on a single core driver.

I had the same thing with that board when I had one to play about with. Was seeing how far it would overclock and it just kept on going! Took a picture of it so I could show off my uber clocked A64 on air. :D

Not sure how to fix it though, didn't have the board long enough to have more of a play...

Driver should be the same then, i would have thought.

Best bet at this point i'd say is doing a bios update if you feel comfortable doing that.
