OK note. I used JB weld plastic bonder. It's like black epoxy. I could only use one bolt, as any more were not going into any metal and or would obscure it slotting into the PCIE tang.
The small slither is to be plastic welded to the end of the hole to stop it drifting outward. I will then fashion another bracket to hold it in at the other end. Probably tomorrow tbh, I don't forsee it being very hard.
OK so I put some spade connectors male and female on the power button wires. That worked. Time to boot it up and install Bazzite...
Those of you who had your money on that puny Noctua not being up to the task? were correct. So I machined two pieces of plastic, glued them to the floor then VHB a larger fan onto those.
No duct yet, that will be the last task. I made up the small bracket I spoke of and fitted that.
Now I knew it wasn't going to close but it was annoying.
*some time later*
Now initially I tried to solder on a pigtail behind the connector. It did not work. I think the solder on the sockets is made from uranium tbh. It just smokes but doesn't melt. So I somewhat lost my excrement in frustration and well it now looks like this lmao.
I have seen many people trying to cool these with all sorts of whacky crazy methods. Like hacking the top layer off of the large vapor chamber and so on. Why?. What was wrong with the initial idea of simply blowing air through the sodding thing?
As such I did not destroy mine as I totally didn't need to. The answer was incredibly simple. Grab a roll of Gorilla extra strong duct tape and a thin sheet of card. Then you simply wrap both sides and you get a very stiff yet flexible material to work with. Then? start off with a fan with smooth sides and simply VHB FTW.
Before fitting said VHB we remove and create the rest.
I installed Fallout 3, Proton and gawd knows what else. I then spent over two hours playing. Even my high end usb dac worked so yeah she’s ready to game. Couldn’t believe it didn’t crash once that’s so un fallout like lmao.
I shot a couple of short vids so when I have time I’ll upload them.
How's the size compared to an old-school Shuttle PC? Just thinking they did custom carriers for those for LAN parties. Used to have one but I think it went in a chuck-out a while back... although the cat thought it made a great bed for a while
Looks good andy. I have not gotten round to buying one of these yet as money has been a bit tight.
I did however see a REALLY well designed case that can be 3D Printed for these. I believe they guy actually sells a whole kit for them inc PSU, fans etc.
