AMD Carrizo APU Massive Leak – 40W TDP, Excavator Cores, 512 SP and Assorted Benchmarks

You do realise you're arguing that consoles are not just for kids and then using your kids as the sole justification for using one?

Still as ever. AMD have almost released a CPU

Came across that way didn't it :/

I play it more than the Kids though - much prefer to sit it the living room playing on a Big screen and my home cinema system, rather than in front of my smaller 1080p PC screen.

At the minute I am playing through GTA V on PS4 - it looks great and plays well, and I don't feel like I am missing much.
It probably plays better than my current PC would @ 1080P - it would look nicer on a PC with 4K screen, but then I would need a Graphics card to drive the 4K screen.

I like that it just works - I turn it on, stick the disc in and am playing - Updates are already download whilst I am sleeping, I don't have to worry about whether it will run on my graphics card, or whether I need to update drivers to get a new game working properly.

I also like the fact that I can borrow and lend games with friends and workmates (where nowadays there are no game demos and sponsored reviews, I'd sooner borrow a game for a few days - especially if it's not a genre I would normally buy, before deciding to spend money on it) - it becomes a social aspect talking about games that we play etc.

I have 2 PCs (One has a 2500K and a 7850 Graphics Card, other a G3258 and a R260X) - both get used for gaming as well - but my needs are different
with them. I mainly play WoW, TF2, FTL, and other older games (even Dosbox and Amiga emulators). I no longer need my PC to be cutting edge.

Still as ever. AMD have almost released a CPU

Which will still not be any good for anything more than 1080P Peasant-spec gaming.

Its quite funny, since I know plenty of people who can easilly afford £2000 on a gaming PC but just prefer using a console since its plug and play and they don't need to think about buying new hardware for a few years. Its just convinience.

E-peen hardware enthusiasts are funny, since instead of just being happy with their gaming PCs they need to justify it by putting down other people. Just very funny, especially at the rate PC hardware gets outdated.

You are not going to go into a bar and exclaim" I have an 8 core Xeon at 5GHZ and quad Titan X/R9 390X cards" and then expect all the girls to collapse at the size of your MASSIVE E-PEEN.

Personally,I cannot stand consoles and their stupid controllers,so I am definitely PC only ATM,but each to their own,and if people like consoles, good for them.

Well said.

Consoles are not plug and play. Multi-GB updates (20+GB in some cases) required to play, online connectivity required (see: xmas fiasco w/ Lizard Squad), bugs n glitches now plague the games since devs can just push updates over the net, I'm forgetting stuff but the point is it's often easier to play on PC.

That is exactly what I found with my xbone, and why I moved back to PC gaming following years of console (PS3, XB360 and Wii).

My xbone didn't even work out if the box. I had to upgrade the firmware, having looked up the process online.

Not 4 Player Minecraft last time I checked - which the Kids seem to enjoy when their friends come round, or Sonic Racing Transformed.

Pretty sure sonic racing can. Can certainly do 2-player, and the menu makes it look like 3 and 4 player is possible.

(I've not read any recent preceding posts - we seem a long way off topic here...)

well thats what your using now and it seems fine ;) nah honestly I dont care about the console issue (beyond it being the only thing keeping AMD afloat at the moment)

I just want a new desktop CPU and came in here hoping for some news on excavator in case AMD ever decide to release it as a desktop item.

so errr.... *kicks feet and shuffles out of the thread*

The hardware spec is fixed for 4+ years, meaning they have no need for the owners to care whether their console will run a game or not,or whether their mates will. Don't need to care whether the CPU or card is good enough and so on,or whether the latest drivers have broken one of their games or not,or whether Gameworks,AMD Gaming Evolved, etc is breaking their game so they need to change card vendor and so on.

Plus do we really want to go on about the hardware and software issues which have plagued PCs over the last decade - everything from games with zero day bugs, hardware failures and so on. This plagues both PC and console a like and remember I don't care much for consoles and I hate analogue controllers like the plague.

PCs often have loads of different types of software asking whether they need updating etc,and then people complaining XYZ card is not performing well, when someone else's is fine or their CPU is having issues,or some SLI/Xfire profile is crap and so on.

Most people don't build PCs and will buy prebuilt ones usually laptops - you need to stop thinking like a hardware enthusiast. We are not the vast majority of PC owners,as is anyone caring to post in the hardware section of the biggest computing forum in the UK(and one of the larger ones in Europe too). Most people are clueless about what hardware to get etc.

Remember, discrete card sales are declining year on year, and the market has not dropped out since PC hardware enthusiasts are spending more and more on their cards. Intel is increasing overall marketshare year on year with their IGPs which means laptops are still the more popular type of PC.

Plus enough people could not give a monkies about computer hardware in any way as it bores them to death. We are enthusiasts on forum. We actually find all the bits and bobs interesting.

Even a lot of people I know got back into PC gaming since they just ask me to do the hardware specs, and they know I will make good value spec lists which will last a few years. If they didn't know me,they will still be console gamers to this day. Yet there are others who just CBA with PC gaming and they have decent enough work desktops at home which could be upgraded.

Yet,all the consoles dislikers have to just find specific examples of how much easier a PC is,or when consoles have had issues and so on,which of course they will since they invested loads into PC. I have never owned or wanted to own a console, but I know plenty of people who do,who have both and so on.

If PCs were so simple, then Valve would not be trying to consolify the gaming PC with their SteamBoxes and so one. Nvidia would not be trying to consolify the gaming PC with its experience software and so on.

Honestly, though can we move past the console vs PC E-PEEN debate now,as the PC MASTER RACE will probably implode if anyone has anything good to say about consoles, and I don't know how we even got to consoles in an APU thread.

Oh wait!!

Yes,PC Master Race E-PEEN about those who might be running PC games on IGPs.

But yes it is budget as you buy the console for £300 with a couple of goodies thrown in. After that it's a gradual drip drip + £50 a time for a new game, how is that too different to a PC game except the pricing is more aggressive?
It's a subsidised console to make money in the long term from the unwary families.

And on a PC clockers site,I think calling it a peasant machine is about right.

This is scratching the surface as £300 for a basic console offers no extras meaning you are having to buy an additional controller just for the odd session you have a friend round. Try being realistic and mention the average guy spending about £350 for a cheap bundle then allow another £120 for a couple of games and a controller. Thats £470 as a starter throw in the online subscription and were talking half a grand to begin your console journey of epic game prices..

My local buddies are always badgering me to buy one for the odd gathering drinking beer and catching up. These guys are over 30 and have humongous TV's to play in their man caves costing between £600-2000 specifically bought to game on their console.

Getting to the peasant topic, these guys are far from rich but your demographic isn't just spoilt kids that receive no parenting. Many families own one and the age ranges will mean nothing if you check Sony's and M$ coffers they are flying off the stock floor.

So no I completely disagree with what you say and think both you and dave are showing your colours when you post baloney like this.

Was with you until this part - you mean you did some APU (iGPU) gaming tests and didn't find a difference? That would fly in the face of every other study.

Was saying unless your running a really high end multi GPU setup or APU (iGPU) where system memory has a bigger impact. I've only tested single GPU and multi GPU setups - relying on other people results for iGPU.

Why are people defending consoles on an ocing forum... time was this nonsense would not be tolerated.

Maybe because some of us realise, different platforms suit different gamers. Its just retarded and arrogant E-PEEN to be putting them down. The same arrogant E-PEEN which puts down PC gamers who cannot afford expensive hardware. OTH,I have NEVER met one console or tablet gamer who puts down PC gamers EVER.

Its gotten worse and worse in the last 5 years - just because people like hardware does not mean they are decent gamers or should put down others who like to use a different platform to game on. Its pathetic.

If it were not for said "peasant gamer consoles",a lot of those high budget game probably would not have made it to PC. Heck,Mass Effect was made for console originally not PC and that is one of the best series I played for years.

Crytek for all its pro-PC leanings with FarCry and Crysis, never made enough money from the PC ,so were forced to try and branch out to other platforms. For all the noise PC gamers make, they don't give enough support companies which try to put PC first - just complain all the time.

The same goes with DICE. Even Blizzard is now moving back to consider consoles as a platform.

PC gamers need to deal with the fact that consoles, phones, tablets, etc are gaming platforms which people might prefer over a PC.

I hate the poxy controllers on consoles like a passion and I hate gaming on a TV too. Never liked it as a kid and I never liked it even now.

Big deal. Its like Ferrari owners complaining that people buy superminis.

I cannot understand the mentality TBH,we are all gamers after alland leave it at that.

They do their thing and we do our thing.

Nope, lets just put down someone else to make us feel mightier about our platform.

Yawn.

Or put down people who might be running PC games on low spec hardware like IGPs.

Which is the reason consoles were mentioned in this thread.

GO! GO! PC MASTER RACE E-PEENZ!!

We will need to agree to disagree.
